[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Remote Viewing And Trancendental Meditation...

For over 25 years I've practiced various exercises associated with Zen and the martial arts and have discovered some very interesting things about the human mind (all without the benefit of hallucinogenic drugs), enough to realize there very much is something of substance to all of this.

But of some of the more esoteric ideas I remain unconvinced. I'm not a "true believer" type, even if the things promoted are related to things I do have first hand knowledge of.

Anyway the one concept that always facinated me was "remote viewing." This is also known as a out of body experience and what stupid hippies "thought" they achieved with a combination of drugs and psuedo meditation. The idea is that the mind is not restricted to the body and can travel once the technique of freeing it is learned.

So what do you think.

Is it possible or are the exponents who profess this skill simply self deluded and only "think" they go places?

I think Penn and Teller (the magician guys) pretty well blew the whistle on this BS years ago, IIRC.

I agree that "most" of those who espouse the skill (especially seeking fame or profit) are probably FOS.

However the kinds of people who genuninely seek these kinds of skills tend to avoid promotion and are most likely to go unevaluated for credibility.

Ya know what’s weird?

Right now I’m making a bootleg CD of outtakes from Hüsker Dü’s classic double LP Zen Arcade, called “Complete Zen”.

Listening to the original album over, and over, and over again – helped me make it through a lot as a young man.

My belief is that it’s somewhat delusional, so I put down “possibly” – because there’s got to be some good mystical shit in life to offset all the “bad” mystical shit religious types try and shove down your throat.

As the atheists say; what good is eternal life if you have to wait until you die to get it?

What’s pathetic is when people try and make money off of someone’s quest for spirituality – that’s unfogiveable.

The .GOV has engaged in remote viewing research for years.

A guy named Skip Atwater was supposedly the operations and training officer for the Army Intelligence remote-viewing surveillance program STARGATE. He worked closely with SRI International and is the head of the Monroe Research Institute.

My brother's gf was involved in a hit and run car accident,
and as she was telling me over the phone about it, I said
it was a metallic green 1970's continental or cadillac that
hit her car. She asked me how the in the hell did I know that,
since she didn't tell me what kind of car it was and she didn't
talk to my brother yet.
I told her it just popped into my head.
That stuff is very true.

I'll say 'possible' but I'm VERY skeptical -- possible because there's a helluvalot we don't know about the human mind. Skeptical because if it were possible, teenaged boys would be figuring it out to go check out hot women.

This thread is worthless without Chi.

I believe that remote viewing may be possible when one reaches a certain level of enlightenment.
I have seen pretty convincing studies that yielded very positive results from the participants.
It is interesting to note that the CIA and the US Army thought enough of remote viewing to spend millions of dollars researching it in a program called "Stargate". You can read more about it here.

Remote viewing or out of body expirences are real!!! It happened to me...granted I was on alot of heavy medication...but I looked down and it was like I was floating over myself. It was some pretty weird shit.
