A couple medium sized boxed I just finished....
I used Purple Heart wood on these. It has a very nice deap purple color that the pictures do not do justice. I got the idea of using purple wood after staring at the MILF for 8 hours every day...     SGtar15 |

He helps out around the shop. Once my wood is a nice purple "hue" he is the one that rubs the oils on in till it gets all glossy. Sgtar51/50 |

I found that it didnt like to take the true oil as well as the walnut. If I remember right there is 21 coats of hand rubbed oil on that baby. Thats a whole lot of rubbing! |

Seriously, I've made some panel grips for my wife's 92F and for my Para Ord. That purpleheart is some beautiful stuff--just don't use if for a salad bowl or cutting board...it's mildly poisonous |

Checking back on this...
Two of the Drivers I work with are woodworkers. One is Professional Grade, the other is his close second. I've seen several different kinds of wood they've displayed in the showcase at the Base, and some other work they've done. What a great thing it is to see what can be done with wood. The 'second' guy made some wood handled sticks the Drivers use to change the signage display by reaching up from the seat to press the buttons on the display panel without having to get up from the Driver's seat. Novel concept and idea and he sold a LOT of 'em! Mine has the Purple wood handle. Another wood I like is the Zebrawood. Nice work there, sgtar15. |
