My friend was in Greece recently (the Olympics) and happen to find this nice mess. He said these are some of the Garands that were destroyed before the US Embassy ordered the Greek Govt. to stop destroying US property. The ones that weren't destroyed eventually made it back for sale to US citizens again at www.ODCMP.com. Also tons of BAR and 1919's there as well

I wonder how many of these are the very same weapons that helped defeat the communists in greece in 1946?

You know, when your government is giving you the shakedown at every turn and then stuff like this turns up, where they're literally torching large amounts valuable public property... it's just a punch in the gut.

Damn! It would be one thing if all that was a rusting pile of junk, but most of it looks like it just came off the assembly line.

If any of that stuff was issued under the "lend lease" program of WW II, it's still US property.

It's probably part of some UN arms agreement. They'll melt it all down and make some sort of "humanitarian" or "peace" sculpture with it.

They did have some nice "Greek" M1s at the CMP store at Perry, but.....

Stop lending it in the first place...sell it straight out. It seems to me that people and countries have to learn that their freedom is not free, but it is purchased at a price.

Look at all of the ungrateful nations that gained their "freedoms" with American blood, arms, and $.

My friend was there about 2 years ago when the US Embassy official showed up at the demill center. He said that they had already destroyed 200,000+ before they had to stop. Someone in the US got wind of the destruction and ordered them returned. The M1's that CMP has now are from that lot that was saved. My friend is now a US citizen and a local LEO and is lucky enough to have LEO friends back in Greece that let him get "down and dirty" with the stuff.

thanks,
Ron

I don't know if any of you noticed the AA gun in the back but that is a demilled WWII Bofors wheel-mounted gun. That would have been a nice display weapon in front of a VFW hall

thanks,
Ron
