Some will say yes.. some will say no. I prefer Master of Puppets. Most stoners will say Ride the lightning.
Ohh yeah,,, IBTL |
Just today?!
I really like ...and Justice for All --it's hard to pick one though. |
Master of Puppets
....And Justice for All Kill 'em All Ride the Lightning Metallica In that order. I can't rank the new stuff since it's so fuckin' different from their older stuff. Call em sell outs, over the hill, washups, whatever. Go to a live show and let them change your mind. One of The Best Concerts Ever. |
... And Justice For All will always be my favorite. I just wish they had mixed in more bottom end when they mastered it. That fact alone is the main reason why the black album that came out after it was so bass heavy.
Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... |
OK, they are sell outs, over the hill and washed up... Once I heard them sing "I've even sucked an old mans cock" I was done listening to their new stuff. |
It's very good, but the subrepticious black one kick ass too....

A big yes, and I would like to dedicate that album to Terrorists everywhere |
Not for sure, but don't you mean Garage inc.? |
Very tough.
I'd say it's a toss-up between kill em all and ride the lightning. And justice for all isn't better as a whole album, but I believe some of their best songs come from and justice for all. I personally don't understand why people say master of puppets is their best album, I think it's just above the black album. "shortest straw, the shortest straw has been pull for you!" |
....And Justice for All
The two times I saw them, they put on the best shows I've ever seen. I still won't go see them again. F-ck James. F-ck Lars. |
What? nobody likes St. Anger?
good, me neither. I'd have to go with master of puppets or black. |
Geez, it was a cover! |
no dude, that was from 1998, 11 years after. Garage Days ReRevisited: Helpless, The small hours the wait..... |
Master of Puppets.
Does it get any better than Leper Mesiah or The Thing That Should Not Be? |
Kill 'Em All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning. Their early stuff was so good. Its a shame that the tour bus tipped over on Cliff.
Because it's the last album that Cliff Burton played on, and he was a God. Hands down the best bass player of all time. Master of Puppets was the pinacle of the true Metallica. And Justice for all was much more of a studio album. |
Yes, and it starts out "bass solo, take one". |
That is good stuff Lumpy - I agree. Your Aimpoint still sucks though. |
That was a cover of the Anit-Nowhere Leauge's "So What". Not Metallica's work, just a cover song on Garage Inc. Ride The Lightning or Justice... hard to decide. |
+1 on Burton. IMO it's the reason why I like Kill em All and Ride the Lightning better then Master of Puppets. I personally thought his role became less as each album came out, his peak being kill em all and his lowest point with master of puppets. I'll have to listen to Master of Puppets again to refresh my memory though. His bass riffs on The 4 Horseman is one of the coolest things I've heard come out of an instrument to this date aside from the bass solo on the same album. |

$5.98 ep album(garage days) when Cliff was still alive...ya' they've been around that long..........
how about...none of the above because metallica is irrelevant, sucks, and has sucked for years...
Master of Puppets, Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, Black album and And Justice For All
New stuff sucks, but they still rock live |
I prefer Mater of Puppets, Battery and Sanitarium. In that order. |
incidentally, everything since and including the black album has been pure shit.
Ride the lightning, Master of puppets a close second. That was when they were still full of piss & vinegar, and defined the whole speed metal genre. First time I heard the classical intro segue into mayhem on "Fight Fire With Fire, I hated it. Thought, "what the hell is this crazy shit?" Of course it eventually grew on me like a particularly nasty fungus to become one of my all time favorite albums.

I have to agree here. Justice comes out so flat on the drums. Like Lars is pounding on card board boxes. Great album. Would be real sweet if the remixed and rereleased it. I don't think Cliff Burtons influance was declining at all. Look at the stark differences between Justice and the Black Album. Gone are the instrumentals. Gone are the epic songs that you don't want to end. It was obvious that Cliff's Classical background heavily influanced Metallica's work when he was alive. I always thought of Metallica as Classical Heavy Metal. It's pretty bad when a collection of covers that is Garage Inc blows away their post Black Album work. Re-Load should never have been released. It was garbage. St Anger is a step in the right direction except for the fact that it sounds like total crap. Did they record it on a cassette tape? They said they wanted to get back to theri roots. Back to basics. Well they should have done it with their music, not their recording equipment. |
Actually IIRC Kirk has the classical training and background. |
Today my favorite is Master of Puppets, wednesdays are for And Justice for All...
1. Tie: Master of Puppets & Ride the Lightning
3. Tie: Kill Em All & ...and Justice for All Their cover tunes are great too. I've seen them many times between 1986 and this year, and have chatted with James and Jason. While their post 1990 studio stuff isn't as good as the older stuff, they are still great live. |
Absolutely the best album, ever, period, end of discussion. |
He studied under Joe Satriani, though you'd never know it from his playing. Not sure about any classical training. |
First of all, it is Garage Days Re-revisited.
1. Kill em' All- with blitzkrieg and Am I Evil 2. Master of Puppets- C'mon boys, DISPOSABLE HEROES!!! "Left to die with only friend, alone I clench my gun" 3. Justice- Blackened Rocks 4. Ride the Lightning- For Whom The Bell Tolls 5. Garage Days Re-Revisited - Green Hell, Last Caress- Crash Course Classic Covers. 6. Metallica- Played out to the ends of the Earth 7. All the rest of the drivel that they have put out since. |
+1. Best metal CD of all time. Nothing is as complex and beautiful, or as hard to play live..... |
