I know there is quite a few, but thought I'd ask anyway. There are probably more user countries out there than most people would think.

Alot of Latin American countries use M16s, but not exclusively.  Saw a good National Geographic special on Colombia, they use M16s (the upgraded A1s with the round hand guards but the A1 uppers), FALs and Galils.  El Salvador uses a mix of M16s and HK.  Guatamala uses M16s.

South Korea made and used them, but they are largely replaced in front line service by the domesticly designed and produced K-1 and K-2.

The thread topic is which countries use the M16 as their Standard Service Rifle.
Although the countries listed above have probably purchased M16's not all of them have it issued as their standard weapon.
Ones that I know of, Australia, Ireland and Oman use the Steyr Aug
Germany, G36
Norway NJ3 (Norwegian HK G3) although they will be replacing these with Diemaco C7 & C8
Brazil, FAL I think
UK,SA80
Singapore SAR80
Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, HK G3 and HK G33

I can tell you for sure who doesn't. Somalia. When I spent 3 months in East Africa, the Somali "Army" was a real piece of work. They were a part of a security detail for part of my travels. None wore the same uniform, none carried the same rifles (FAL'S/G3's/AK's mostly), none looked like professional military in any way and they were all juiced up on Khat(a VERY popular stimulant, that is a plant that's chewed and makes guys in impovershed, war raved countries REAL itchy and nervous and trigger happy) and I couldn't get the hell out of that shit hole fast enough.

Sorry, your thread just made me think, for some reason, of the those days.

Not a hope in hell! The XM-8 is a pointless weapon. Add a HK gas piston upper to an M16 or M4 and you get a better weapon for a lot less hassle and money

The standard rifle in Norway is called AG3, which is a licensed built HK G3. It has either the fixed or coll. stock depending on unit.
This rifle is scheduled to be replaced by a 5.56 rifle, but which hasn't been decided yet. The contenders are the FN F2000, Diemaco C8 and HK G36KV. The F2000 is apparantly last and the winner will probably be either the G36KV or C8.

The marine unit (KJK) has bought the G36KV, and some of those rifles has been borrowed by some units serving abroad.

Army and Navy SOF have bought the Diemaco C8 variants. (HJK C8A2, MJK and FSK has the C8SFW)

Until a couple years ago, the Singapore Armed Forces issued us the M-16S1, which was a locally produced version of the M16A2. Recently, they've moved to a locally designed bullpup weapon called the SAR-21.

For a period before the colapse Somalia was a US client state.

When I was in Somalia we confiscated several M16A1s.  All were former US Army guns that had been provided free of charge to Sammy by Uncle Sugar.
