I found this on the web edition of the Arizona Republic.
This guy is so over the top I don't even know where to begin. Maybe with the foam-at-the-mouth NRA or 30-clip magazine references ?

Bullet-riddled rifle ban explained

Peter Aleshire
Sept. 16, 2004 01:51 PM

I finally figured out why President Bush and the Republican Congress let the ban on assault weapons expire.

Initially, I thought Bush was just so afraid of the foam-at-the-mouth National Rifle Association that he was willing disagree with two thirds of the voters and flip-flop on his four-year-old campaign promise.

But then I read about the federal court case in New York that established that Osama bin Laden's boys bought 50 sniper rifles in the U.S. and shipped them to Afghanistan right before the U.S. invasion. Snipers can down helicopters and kill you at a range of half a mile with these .50 caliber rifles, which aren't included in the assault weapon ban.

So, obviously, Bush let the loophole-ridden assault weapon ban expire so he can quickly introduce a meaningful ban on the weapons terrorists, gang members, drug smugglers and general all purpose nut-cases could use to spread terror and mow down cops. Granted, the now dead ban did prevent the nutcases from buying 30-clip magazines, but left most of the most deadly weapons freely available. Clearly, we needed tough restrictions in these terrorist-tainted times.

I feel so bad for having doubted the President.

So expect that meaningful crackdown to protect American this week.

Next week at the latest.

Right?

George?

Are you there?

50 sniper rifles were bought in the USA and shipped to Afganistan to shoot down helicopters.  50 caliber rifles, no less...

Not only did we give them sniper rifles we gave the stinger missiles as well to shoot the "Hind". It was good policy at the time.

who exactly does this moron think he's addressing?
who is his audience?

Sure as hell isn't George Bush.
His grasp of politics is obviously VERY limited, not to mention his almost complete misunderstanding for what a "30-clip magazine" is.
Perhaps I should waste a few moments of my life asking for a definition for that term.

Dear Mr. Aleshire,

I read your piece in the Arizona Republic, and I have a question.  What are "30-clip magazines"?  They sound big and mean and scary.

Thanks,
Chimborazo

We gave them everything including the tactics.  Michael Vickers ran the war like his own little game of chess.  From Charlie Wilson's War

In conjunction with President Zia of Pakistan in the 1980s, Wilson and Arvakotos circumvented most of the barriers to arming the Afghan mujahideen-distance, money, law and internal CIA politics, to name a few. Their coups included getting Israeli-modified Chinese weapons smuggled into Afghanistan, with the Pakistanis turning a blind eye, and the cultivation of a genius-level weapons designer and strategist named Michael Vickers, a key architect of the guerrilla campaign that left the Soviet army stymied. The ultimate weapon in Afghanistan was the portable Stinger anti-aircraft missile, which eliminated the Soviet's Mi-24 helicopter gunships and began the train of events leading to the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and its satellites. A triumph of ruthless ability over scruples, this story has dominated recent history in the form of blowback: many of the men armed by the CIA became the Taliban's murderous enforcers and Osama bin Laden's protectors. Yet superb writing from Crile, a 60 Minutes producer, will keep even the most vigorous critics of this Contra-like affair reading to the end.,

Guess  I meant 30-shot clips, or something.

since 30, 30-shot clips would be like, well, a lot of bullets. I keep meaning to take my brain in to have it tuned, but I keep forgetting.

my letter to that asshat.

1.) Bush NEVER promised to renew it. He said specifically, if it ever came across his desk, he'd sign it. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. He's kept his promise. You anti-freedom people just dropped the ball, that's all. So quit your bitching.

2.) It's quite clear but your article that you have no understanding of the word "criminal." Do you honestly think Al Qaeda is coming all the way here to the US to buy 50 caliber rifles when they can buy them in other countries in europe for less and easier? Also what makes you think they go to local gun dealers for that?

3.) As far as selling them to al qaeda goes, there's no need for them to buy them, they already have them. They bought a ton of them in the 80s during the soviet-afghan war. They were AMAC 50 caliber rifles by a company called Iver Johnson which I believe is now out of business. Again it's obvious you did no research what-so-ever.

4.) On every single poll I have ever been to with the exception of one, I have always seen the majority in FAVOR of the ban expiring. Not renewing. It'd be nice if you quit lying your ass off saying "oh the majority wants it renewed." What is the majority? 4 million NRA members? or 2,000 sorryass mothers from the million mom march and that socialist bitch, Sarah Brady?

5.) sidenote: it is true when they say that so-called "assault weapons" are no more dangerous than any other gun. They aren't anymore dangerous. It sounds like you've been watching too much Rambo, smoking crack and listening to the ramblings of someone like Dianne Feinstein and the VPC. You do realize it's in their best interests to lie to you? right? It's how they make their money and stay in power. By destroying peoples' rights. I like to think of it as Socialist Profiteering. A rather scummy and despicable way to make money. Gun laws have never protecting anyone. Why in the world would a crook go pay 700 bucks at the local gun dealer for a gun when he can go pay 70 bucks for a stolen/illegally smuggled one on the black market?

You are aware that millions of automatic weapons illegally cross our borders each year. In fact one major hotspot for illegal smuggling activity, aside from California, is Arizona. I suggest you check out exactly what's coming across the border there and once you do I'd love to see how you still defend a ban on these weapons being in the hands of law abiding citizens(since that's the only thing the ban affects. Criminals dont give a shit.)

It's quite obvious, by having read your article, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Most certainly NOT yours,
                                       Vol

Do a little research on the whacko.  I've read things he wrote about mind control and chiracaua Indians.  He's been an anti-gunner for years (at least 15).
