Hiya gang! Just thought I would update you on the happenings at the shop. The MILF in accounting is holding my paychecks hostigae till I give in for sex...but other than that she is okay.
She still keeps the paycheck however.. ANyways. Here is a couple of things I have completed recently.. I built these after the boss left using his machines...so don't tell him.     SGtar15 |

I don't know what type of stand you are talking about. I am hoping to build a full-sized thin wood case for an AR15 or subgun soon. Now that it is a little cooler I can get some work done. Damn MILF is wear stockings, a black skirt, and a see-thru top today....so I am not sure which piece of wood is going to get worked first..... Sgatr15 SGatr15 |

The top one in Mahogony with 4 coats of Poly Finish. It gives it a real nice "sheen"...similar to metalic paint. Sgtar15 |

Boog take a look at a miter joint then take a look at Sgt's. His are much stronger and look better.
Sgt have you made any wall mount rifle racks. If not have you ever thought about it? I've been shopping for a rifle rack to mount in my walk-in closet but have yet to find any that suit my taste. |

Watch out for Mr Kickback. I was running a nice clean piece of red oak through the tablesaw with a push stick when the saw grabbed it, tossed it and the stick across the shop, and broke the heck out of my little finger doing so.
It's been a week, the finger is still black and blue, and it still hurts like crazy (vicodin ran out on day two, codine ran out on day five, and I am down to motrin 800s and naprosyn now). The throbbing is the worst. |

They do make kick back preventers. A good quality device is worthwhile. I know, most of us don't use them. We also stand clear of projectiles. You are lucky they didn't have to pull that oak out of your spleen! There is nothing like wood. |

The usual method of joining ends on small boxes such as this is to use a miter joint and not a dado joint. The miter joint is better looking because no end grain is exposed. The downside is the miter joint is more difficult to cut. The dado joint is strong but has exposed end grain. I do know of what I speak as I have been wood working for many years. That being said the boxes shown in this thread are very nicely done and well finished. |

Well, I will stand up and say that I know Sgtar15 has a lock miter router bit, and he is still not using it.... It would provide a much stronger joint and be more attractive... Sgt is right on the boxes to use the dado... unless he starts splining the miters.....

I haven't used the lock miter bit yet because I need a 1/2 router. I do use miter joints at times but I like the look of the end grain as on some boxes I round over the corner. SGatr15 |

 This is the one for the AR15. They make one for the FAL also. The piece going up into the magwell is routered in the shape of the magazine. BigDozer66 |
