I have very little to say, I don't know how to respond to this.

Global team set to monitor election
By Erica Werner, Associated Press  |  September 17, 2004

WASHINGTON -- A team of international observers will travel to five states beginning today to monitor preparations for the Nov. 2 presidential election.

The observers, organized by the human rights group Global Exchange, will meet with voters, voting-rights groups, and local officials to discuss voter disenfranchisement, the security of electronic voting machines, and the influence of money in politics.

Four years after the Florida recount exposed major weaknesses in US election systems, they hope international pressure will help boost voter confidence and head off potential problems.

"The presence of an international group really gives confidence to voters," observer Brigalia Bam, chairwoman of South Africa's Independent Electoral Commission, said at a news conference yesterday. She said the observers will seek to ensure "the elections that are run are responsive, they are transparent, and they are fair."

The 20-member group includes lawyers, former elected officials, election specialists, and activists. Global Exchange is based in San Francisco.

They will split up and travel next week to Florida, Ohio, Arizona, Missouri, and Georgia. Florida was picked because of 2000, Ohio because it is hotly contested, Arizona because elections there are publicly financed, Missouri because of voter disenfranchisement in St. Louis in 2000, and Georgia because it is a rare state where voters use only touch-screen voting machines.

They will spend the week meeting with voters and officials and observing forums, registration drives, and other events. They will report on what they have seen, and a smaller group will return for Election Day.

Global Exchange officials think it is the first large-scale effort by a nongovernment group to monitor US election processes.

Voter disenfranchisement in St. Louis????  More people voted than there are people living in St. Louis!!!!

[tinfoil hat]

A quick way to bring the US into civil unrest and/or civil war would be to actively meddle in the election to benefit the favored European candidate (Kerry). Once they declare Kerry the winner, regardless of the real will of the voters. The US will be out of play internationally until the mess is sorted out, either with Kerry being elected and remaining in power, or with Kerry chosen to be the winner and being forced from power via civil war.

[/tinfoil hat]

Only bad things can come from this nonsense.

Perhaps they can however prevent the Democrats from registering corpses in other states though?

Somehow I doubt that will be very high on the priority list.

WTF,

Hey you, yea you with the blue helmets, get the fuck out of my country.  Mind your own business.  When and if you ever square away your own fucking country, then you can come put your nose into ours.  Until then get the fuck out.  Oh btw, don't fucking call the US of A if you get invaded or anything, since you found it that you have time to poke your nose into our business.

I'll tell you the real flaw in the US election system:  it's that if you try to tell some urbanite that he or she has already voted, andn I know that because I was here 2 hours ago when you used a different name, they'll scream that you're violating their civil rights and you'll go to jail.

Another poster here posted his firsthand experience with this (double, triple voting in urban areas) as a poll monitor...

edit: was it Hiram Ranger?

Sweet.  Are they going to be here to keep the polls open longer (again) for the inner city (the Dems and the poors folks they bought votes from), while the county (mostly Republican) voter sites have to close down at the required time?

This is such a set up.  If these jerks say anything about the election, the left will run with it.  Especially when Kerry loses.  It won't be recount,  the new slogan will be do over.

show up in my polling place and I'll have them arrested unless they were issued a poll watcher's certificate.  If they have one, they will be shown a folding chair and told to sit down, shut-up, stay out of the way and watch... anything else, they will be arrested.  That simple.  I've had people arrested before for interfering with my polling place, I'll do it again.

How do you do this? Instructions please!

These are people who come from non-free countries.  Some of the observers have never even SEEN voting before.  How can they evaluate a democratic process if they've never participated in one?!

Besides - I read that Kofi Anan turned the offer down and they're not really coming.  To wit:  American Freedom magazine Sept. '04 edition.

I feel better already knowing that people from another country with their own agenda will be here to interfere in our political process.  Yeah, we're just another 3rd world country that doesn't understand enough about freedom to run a fair election.  Maybe Afghanistan, Mexico and Bolivia could send some representatives.

Disregard my earlier statement this isn't the same group that was requested by Rep. Eddie Bernice for UN observation.  Because that was refused - those people are not coming.
