Teen Charged With Plotting Columbine-Like Attack
Suspect's Father, Neighbor Arrested On Separate Charges

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 17-year-old Clinton Township youth was charged Friday with plotting an attack against his high school.

Andrew Osantowski (pictured in yearbook photo, left) was charged with threatening terrorism, concealing stolen firearms, breaking and entering a gun shop, and threatening to kill a witness, among other charges. A not-guilty plea was entered in 41-B District Court on his behalf.

Police said Osantowski made threats over the Internet to bomb Chippewa Valley High School, located at 19 Mile and Romeo Plank roads. Investigators executed a search warrant Thursday night on the boy's home on Oakland Court and a neighbor's home.

The teen's mother, Janice Osantowski, said she had no idea of her son's alleged plans or the weapons that were found during the search at the home, Local 4 reported.

"He's a good kid. I think he's just been brainwashed by this Nazi stuff that he had," she said.

Items found during the searches included an AK-47 and other weapons, ammunition, 15 pipe bombs and instructional bomb-making videos and materials, Local 4 reported. Police also discovered Nazi flags, books about white supremacy and Adolf Hitler, and tools stolen from local construction sites, according to the station's reports. Some of the items were displayed in a Friday afternoon press conference.

"Investigators then took into custody the student and his father," said Clinton Township Police Chief Al Ernst. "Our investigators found what appears to be the student planning an attack on the school and our police officers."

Marvin Osantowski, 52, the boy's father, was arraigned on charges of concealing stolen firearms, for which a judge set a $500,000 cash bond.

Janice Osantowski said her husband had been on disability for the past year and a half from a job with automaker Chrysler because of an enlarged heart.

Dominic Queentry, 33, of Clinton Township, was also arrested after his home was searched.

Sources told Local 4 that Osantowski met Queentry in a wooded area, where the man allegedly used an explosive on a tree and gave the teen bomb-making instructions.

Investigators said they found explosives, weapons and drugs inside Queentry's home.

Queentry was charged with possessing explosives and manufacturing marijuana as well as other charges. His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea and a $100,000 bond was set.

The teen's father and Queentry were not believed to be involved in the plot to attack the school, according to police.

Police reportedly learned of the plan by a teenage girl and her father who live in Washington state. The girl was chatting with Osantowski (pictured in yearbook photo, right) online when her father -- a police officer -- noticed the content. He then alerted police in Michigan about the online chat, Local 4 reported.

Mills said there was no date for a planned attack, but it is believed Osantowski was plotting something "in the near future." He said Osantowski was "angry" at everyone and did not name a particular race of students.

Police said Osantowski wrote in one of the chats, "I choose to rise above everyone else. People can be kissing my shotgun straight out of doom. If you don't like it, you die."

"It's scary," said former student Adam Smalley. "I know kids that go here. I have friends who go here. I worry about them."

Chippewa Valley High School was closed Thursday afternoon for the investigation and athletic events were canceled Thursday evening.

"They went through all the teachers' desks. They went through all the students' lockers," said John Doman, a Chippewa Valley student.

Nothing was found during a search of the school, and classes resumed Friday morning, Local 4 reported.

"The school has been very active in taking precautions to ensure it is safe. We believe the school is safe and the community is safe," said Ernst.

Parents were informed of the investigation through a letter from school officials.

Osantowski's bond was set at $1 million.

High Schoolers Shocked To Hear Of Alleged Threat

Students at Chippewa Valley High School said they didn't know much about Osantowski because he had only been attending the school for 10 days.

"When we were talking to him, he seemed really gloomy, depressed, didn't really speak much of anything. Of course, he was new," said Daniel Spechock, a student at the high school.

Local 4 learned that Osantowski has attended at least three schools in the past three years.

He attended De La Salle High School -- a Catholic, college preparatory school for boys -- in Warren in September 2002, where he spent his freshman year and a few weeks as a sophomore.

De La Salle's principal said Osantowski did not have any disciplinary problems, but the principal did not comment on a fight that others said had him expelled from the school, Local 4 reported.

Friends of Osantowski said he may have attended another private high school before enrolling at Chippewa Valley.

"I talked to him Tuesday. I was walking out of school and asked him how he was doing. He said he was liking the new school," said Doman.

Osantowski was recently fired from his job at Fern Hill Country Club for allegedly stealing golf carts, the station reported.

Janice Osantowski said she wasn't aware that her son had appeared in court earlier in the day Thursday, before his arrest, on charges of stealing the carts. In that case, Marvin Osantowski was charged with trying to help hide the golf carts.

Doman told Local 4 the hallways at Chippewa Valley seemed emptier than usual on Friday.

"A lot of people were missing in the hallways. It wasn't as crowded as it usually is," Doman said. "We have 2,100 kids in our school and it's very hard to get around and I had no problem this morning."

Police said they have not found any evidence that other students were involved in Osantowski's alleged plans.

Osantowski has been permanently suspended from Chippewa Valley.

yeah really. public school is nothing more than free daycare thesedays. The few students that actually do want to learn are continually harrassed and subjected to threats and peer-pressure because they actually want to achieve. And schools are EXTREMELY reluctant to expell disruptive students because they lose federal funding by losing students...

I'll get a second job if I have to, but my kids are going to a private school, whether its Christian or secular.

Yep, these news media is trying to create a "case/ground swell" to support passing another assault weapon ban. The news media will be hyping every little bit of news worthy story that involves an "AK47."

We chose homeschooling, and avoid all of this public school crap.

BTW, that daycare is not free. I pay about 4K a year in taxes for state babysitting of other negligent parent's kids.

I’d like to see the nazi propaganda that persuaded this kid to want to shoot up his school. I seen a lot of it and I never seen any that urged kids to grab assault rifles and go shoot up your school (well maybe he read Hunter). Now people are going to associate assault weapons with nazis.

I found a copy of Mein Kampf that was printed by the British during WWII and tried to read it just to see what the big fuss was all about. Fair warning. Mein Kampf is the ultimate antidote for caffeine poisoning ever made. Sheesh........

It is one of the few books in life that I started but didn't finish. Got through 3 chapters in a month then put it down. For a comparison, I got through Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged in three days. It would take something a lot more headier than that book to get me to freeze my buns off at Stalingrad.

Nazism is like the Gothic scene to me, something that I've seen but just cannot f'ing understand why someone would want to do it.

You can't tell a FA or SA AK from it's selector switch anyway... They aren't marked, and at least ONE variety (Romanian) uses the correct selector positions, where all-the-way-down is semi, the middle position is full, and up is safe.

As for nomenclature, this is ad-absurdum. An 'AK' is any gun that follows the pattern, FA or not.

Just like the 'FA AR = M16' thing... The original AR15s (Fairchild-ArmaLite) were select-fire, before there ever was a M16.

The kid seems to be a professional burglar, he stole tools from construction sites, broke into a gun dealership to get his weapon, etc...
