Better knockdown than .223 but similar ammo carrying capability for foot soldiers.

More appropriate for hunting. Reloading should be ok once brass is more widely available. Accuracy should be on par with 5.56 It uses similar mags to the standard GI, but needs to be made of steel (I think) because otherwise the magazines bulge. I don't remember whether you can get 25 or 28 (25 I think) into a mag the same size as a 5.56 30 rd mag. A lot more info in the faq and other threads I posted above. |

Space, NOT weight is the determinant in how much ammo you can carry. 6.8 has a SLIGHTLY longer OAL that .223 |

The 6.8 is really a shortened .270

I'd take a hard look at the 6.5 Grendel before deciding on one of these new calibers.
