Through a handgun? I think it's BS. We ran 3 UMPs through 200 rounds + in about 15 to 20 seconds without any damage.

I suppose it could be possible if you somehow made it full auto and hooked up a 10,000rd drum to it somehow, but just shooting it I don't know how.

Maybe during a deliberate test-to-destruction. But you'd really have to work at it. And a private owner would have to REALLY be stupid to achieve such a result.

A couple of weeks ago I ran 600 rounds through a Mark 23. The magazines were all loaded, the only downtime was for the removal / insertion of magazines.
I found after twenty magazines the slide was extremely hot, unable to touch it with my bare hands. After I ran through the lot, the pistol was smoking (lube). I did fully expect the pistol to crap out due to the heat but, there was no damage, the pistol still functions flawlessly. YMMV. |

If you paint or duracoat a Glock it will not melt when it is baked at just under 300 degrees F.
I could not imagine hanging on to one at that or any higher temperature. How do you shoot if you can not pick it up? |

That's what I was thinking. Unless you have the weapon in some type of aperatus where you don't have to touch the slide, or use asbestos gloves like we did to change out M60 barrels in the Corps. |

Right
Heat won't affect a weapon -- put throught the mill note the gas tube -  If metals can warp so can plastics. I just think that it would get way to hot to hold before that could happen though. |

AAW, Mr. CavalryArms broke his toy. I hope he can find someone to fix it.
 Just kidding, I've done that, it takes a lot of ammo to bend that $10 dollar part. The best fix is to use a pig tail gas tube. It tricks the short carbine into believing it is a full 20". Back to the polymer thing, No way in Hell. |

Can happen with any manufacturer. I had a BM that I got really hot and the gas tube deformed. Not as bad as the one pictured though. |

The guy was probably bumping that weapon. The only time I've seen metal on a firearm warp was in the Army. An M60 machinegun and an M2 both (with uncontrolled rates of fire) became non-functional.
I look at the C-mag in that pic and the first thought is "bump fire." |
