Or they rapidly flicker the same image from one screen to the next faster than you're eye can recognize.  If we're talking about the computery type ones.

Gives some people migrains.

For the red and blue ones you'll notice that if you take off the glasses there are two images on screen.  One is usually red and other green I think.  The glasses blend them together creating the 3d image.

Fun anecdote.  As a kid I used to think that ALL Godzilla TV shows where in 3d.  I insisted on wearing the glasses to watch them.  My parents have some pictures in an album of me staring at regular TV broadcasts with 3d glasses on.

They're pretty cool in a "cheesy" sorta way.

About 25 years ago I went to a showing of "It came from outer space" (Originally filmed for "3-D") as part of a retro' film festival and enjoyed the hell out of the effect.

No I found a set sitting around when I was trying to clean up.  I might wear them next time I go out shopping, just becuase I dont give a damn.
