Carville is a rabid Kool-Aid drinker. He's going to make sure that the final stages of the campaign are dominated by smear-Bush tactics. This will kill Kerry, but the whole point is too lose while stoking the flames of Bush-hatred, thus boosting Hillary in '08.

Kerry and Clinton had a little heart to heart before Clinton had his worked on. A bunch of Clinton people went over to "help" the Kerry campaign. I bet the Kerry people are pissed off something fierce.

He's not brilliant, he's just another strategist. Clinton was brilliant, in that he was able to become all things to everyone. Carvilles job was easy, just tell Clinton what the voters wanted to hear, and Clinton would seduce them. Luckily for us, Kerry doesn't have a tenth of the charisma that Clinton had... |

I disagree with just about everything old Snakehead says, but he gave them some good information recently.
He said (paraphrase): "I don't think that citizens have an individual right to bear arms. But look. It's a losing issue. We need to drop gun control from our platform. It only costs us votes." He's right about that. |

Funny story.
We had Carville come to our school Freshman year to debate with the Professor's. Beforehand we had a problem getting the most desirous professors to agree to join in a political debate with he and his wife. Afterwards I knew why. Every serious point they made that challenged his veiws was responded to with showboating, deflections, and often demeaning humor. Even worse though, he downed so many cocktails at the beforehand dinner we paid for (I was at the table with him) that he was almost drunk by the time he got on stage! What an asshole, and we paid something like 14,000 dollars to have he and his wife come educate us. What a joke. That was the beginning of when my eyes began to open. |

Of course!!! It's so obvious that Hillary wants Bush to win in 2004 so there will be an open seat in the White House in 2008, when Hillary plans to run for President...if Kerry wins, that spoils her chances at the White House. I wouldn't be surprised if the Clintons were behind the forged CBS documents, either...  W in '04!!! |

Actually Carville is brilliant. As somebody who has been playing this game professionally, although still in the minors, I have a great deal of respect for Carville. What people need to understand is this. Hillary wants to be president, Bill does not want her to be president. Bill is giving Kerry advice on how TO get elected to prevent Hillary from having a shot in '08. Carville is working for Hillary in trying to derail Kerry's campaign to open the door for Hillary. Carville knows a loss won;t hurt him any, they will claim Kerry was a bad candidate who made too many mistakes and waited too long on bringing the Clinton Crew in. Carville may lack all social grace, but he knows the game, and his only equal in terms of slash and burn campaigning is Rove. The difference is Rove (1) does it with a little more grace and discretion and (2) Rove results to it only when needed... Carville is brilliant at what he does, but he is a one trick pony.

Agree--but he sure makes my skin crawl. I cannot trust or like his wife--just thinking about her banging him and creating demon spawn. Blech!  Deep down, when she was secretly dating him during the '92 election, I really believe (but of course have ZERO proof) she worked to harpoon his reelection efforts. I did hear him say in an interview last week, "Mary and I were the only ones who thought I would win!"--so he did/does have confidence in her loyalty, but damn, you just don't sleep (literally!) with the enemy. I guess for the insiders it's just a job or game, and they can go drink beers together after 5:00 PM, but for me it is life and death and I will never consort with my enemies.

Mike first thing you need to understand is there are two types of operatives... true believers and mercenaries. Carville is a True Believer, I am a True Believer, Mary is a True Believer... you can respect the True Believers even if you don't agree with them. You always know where they are coming from. Carville was never a Bill backer... he was always a Hillary backer. Bill was the vehicle by which Hillary was brought into the spotlight. I have no problem sitting down with people from the other side of the aisle and having dinner and talking shop. We both know that there are certain things we will slit each other's throat over... so you are guarded. But when you play baseball, you tend to spend your time on and off field with other ball players. Its no different really.

I could never do that--I guess I'm several steps beyond "true believer" as the "throat slitting" part sounds just delicious for me as my entree.  I realize politics is your livlihood though, so it's different for you. For me, it's a truly evil entity, which has been forced upon me when our Republican Governor (Jim Edgar) worked diligently to pass an AWB that would have made me an instant felon upon being signed (1992)--for merely possessing black rifles. Since then, I am a rabid RKBA supporter, have been investigated by the Illinois State Police (regarding a letter to the editor I wrote and had published), and have been "locked and loaded" for years. My local "gun nut" buddies view me with a combination of grudging respect (only because I come across as measured, and not "crazy") and yet disdain, as they think I'm too radical in my beliefs and concerns over the RKBA. Oh well.

Holy crap, I had no idea things were so complicated. I tend to lump them all together, kind of like pre-Nixon America did with Red China and Soviet Russia.
They lump us together too I think. They have never effectively exploited the differences between the libertarian, economic conservative and social conservative wings of the Republican partiy. |
