Interesting. In MA we say "fatha" and "grandfatha". In NY you say "farther" and "grandfarther" I guess that's where all those missing r's went. |

My dad was one. Nice enough guys, but never really thought much about it until he died. They came to the funeral and had two men stay with the coffin the whole time, several of them were men from another Knights chapter that were probably only passing acquaitances with my father. They invite my mother every year to the dinner they have a Christmas time. Decent bunch of regular guys, world could use more like 'em.

Hey all! My question is what do these people do? Like Masons and other "secret societys" do they run the country behind the scenes or communicate with beings from other planets? I'm just kidding . Is it like just being part of a lodge like "MOOSE 219" or something? Someone enlighten me, please. Thanks. Take care.

It's a social club that does charitable work, like the Elks or Masons. I think originally the Masons, were anti-catholic, so the KofC was started so Catholic men could join a club like that. I worked for a guy in the 80s who was Catholic and was both in the Masons and KofC and I think I remember my dad or maybe someone else making jokes about his belonging to both. |

Actually there is nothing secret about it except the initiation. What fun would an initiation be if everyone knew what happens. We mostly do charitable stuff like collect money for the mentally handicapped (tootsie roll drive) and usually help out the parish that we are affiliated with. The only requirements basically (besides being 18 or older) is to practise the Roman Catholic faith. |

Aimless my friend... you are WRONG! The Masons were NEVER anti-Catholic. The Catholic Church however is anti-Mason! It stems from the days of the Knights Templar and the Church's inquisition against them. The Catholic Church has a problem with the secrecy of the Masons and at one time excommunicated parishoners who were also in Lodges. The KoC was created in large part to bring these men back into the fold by offering them a Masonic like experience that was acceptable to the Church.
I have no problem with the KoC... the Elks, the Lios, the Knights of Pithias or any other order.... And I don't mean any offense in saying this, but they are all patterned on the Masons, but none have the historical substance that the Masons have. I do believe they are all very good organizations that the world needs more men to participate in. If the Masons are not for you, look into one of the other groups. Most of the people here seem to have the character that these organizations are seeking. But let there be no confusion... the Masons have never been against any faith or religion that believes in a higher benevolent power. |
