I emailed many of the personalities and the news director and the producers a statement indicating the error of their statement.
I also emailed a picture of my new, now 150% more evil, rifle, and pointed out the super evil features, with labels. (I was not this sarcastic in my message)
I directed them to the ATF web site, as they were stating it sunsets later today.

I have not heard anything but a quote from a local gunstore owner since then and another fair report.
But they have been factually correct since the earlier one.
Don't know if I made a difference or not.
Regardless, they are not saying the ignorant thisngs now, and that's what matters.
