Remember when you could watch TV without seeing commercials for credit cards, prescription drugs, and low-life lawyers?

Remember the days before paid programming?

I need to dig some of my old TV tapes out and watch them just for the commercials.

Remember when there weren't any "watermarks" in the bottom right hand corner of the TV when you watched a show on network TV? God now they have animated advertisements. Those stupid NASCAR ads on TNT piss me off. They even have sound. WTF?!

I walk in, pick one out, fill out the 4473 and state form, pay my money, and walk out the door.

I wish VA would exempt CHP holders from the check. At least we're exempted from the 1 gun a month law now.

Remember when cable tv first came out? It's selling point was that you were paying for it, so no commercials and they could use profanity and show nudity anytime. Also, remember when MTV played music videos?!?!

Remember when cable tv first came out? It's selling point was that you were paying for it, so no commercials and they could use profanity and show nudity anytime. Also, remember when MTV played music videos?!?!

I didn't have cable until 1989, when we moved to town. Before then all we had was an antenna and NBC. When we did get cable, we got 7 channels. PBS, WGN, NBC, TBS, ABC, CBS, and CMT.

I can remember my grandparents having cable as early as 1984ish, and they lived in the sticks of WV.

Speaking of MTV and music videos, I was surfing the channels at home yesterday evening. Go by MTV and see Lenny Kravitz. Think, "Wow, a music video at 4PM on a Sunday afternoon on MTV?". After about 20 seconds, it turns out to be a fucking GAP commercial.

Remember when the news consisted of 1/2 hour of national and 1/2 hour of local from 3 networks (ABC, CBS, NBC)?

Remember when they at least TRIED to confirm facts and display SOME objectivity?

Never missed it in my younger days. I remember spending many a winter evening watching the local & national news on NBC at my grandparents house.

I couldn't tell you the last time I watched a national news broadcast on any of the three major networks.

There was a Family Circle comic to that end in Saturday's paper. Billy was pointing his index finger at Jeffy and saying "Bang Bang!". Then their mother entered the picture and his words changed to "Squirt, Squirt!" and Billy had a frown on his face.

I miss records. Putting an LP on the turntable, putting a couple drops of cleaner on the pad, letting it run a couple revolutions, putting the needle over a track, and flipping the switch. Now me, 27 other people, and DJ's are the only people who like records.

Oh, and the main problem? I was born after the advent of CD's. 'Course, my father, sort of an audiophile himself, has amassed a large collection of the classics...
