I recently purchased this stock and was wondering if there is supposed to be a small hole on the top of the stock where your supposed to put your cheek??  It just doesnt look like it belongs there??

Yes, that's where the retaining rod slides in. I couldn't find a picture, but basically, that spring loaded retaining rod that is sticking out of the lever that you use to lock/unlock the position of the stock is inserted through the top of the stock because it's so long.

I think that is on the bottom of the stock, the hole on the top looks useless and dont know if it is supposed to be there??

Here's a crude representation of how it works:

Part 1 (which is a spring) slips over Part 2 (which is the rod/dowel that locks the stock). Parts 1 & 2 go in that hole that looks useless and into the bottom of the stock's tube, through the locking/releasing lever. Part 3 then threads over Part 2 which then allows the locking/releasing lever to pull down on Part 2 when it is pressed. Notice that Part 2 is skinner at the bottom which allows it to go through the hole which is smaller in diameter than the "useless" hole the cheek rest area of the stock. The smaller opening prevents Parts 1 & 2 from coming through.

Does that make sense?
