One of my regular parts supliers dropped a bomb on my today. We were discussing fallout from the AWB sunset and he said the magazine factories were in full production as we speak. His contractor has orders for almost 10,000 magazines for AR's and Mini-14's. Then he hits me with this tidbit: Center Industries advised him that his dealer cost on USGI 30 rounders will be going down to $3.50 each! He said the prices on magazines should drop like a drunk girls panties on prom night.
Its enough to make you get religion, and enough to make me cry when I think of what I used to pay for magazines. Oh well, looks like better times are coming. |
That expression is a keeper |
Nice.
Doubt the prices will go down. Dealers will stick it to us, not all but some. Not that I mind. They have to make some $$ CRC |
lets hope this wasnt a navy forces special seal recon ROTC gun dealer telling you this and there might be soma validity to his words.
If this proves to be true, I'll shed tears of joy.
GOD BLESS GWB! |
Did the military suppliers ever sell USGI magazines directly to civilians? I remember seeing plenty of Triple K and USA brand magazines and the like crap but never USGI magazines. Probably because they were just so darn cheap at the Army Navy surplus store.
I've seen PMI Mini-15 advertized at $14.95 for the 20 round magazines on pre-order. That's a bit less then I remember them going for ten years ago. Genuine Ruger magazines were like $20 for the twenty rounders. |
I just hope they make some quality mags for the mini, seems like alot of companies were pumping out crap.
I want PMI to make em again. |
any idea what your going to do with the site after Monday, Mike? |
That doesn't sound right.
When I was in the Corps, Cash Sales was selling them for 9.95 (in 2001-2002), and the .gov wasn't making any money, and they buy more mags than any dealer... But if he is getting them for $3.50, I'll give him $5 each which would be a 42.8% percent profit for him. |
I have a gun mag from 1983 that has 30 round USGI's for $7.00 each.

Well according to my friend, his buddy told him the ban will be enacted too soon for anyone to get any real benefit from the sunset. He thinks we have about 3 - 6 months to get our toys.
please don't make me barf President Bush is good and all but you have the House of Representatives to thank for this. |
I thought $3.50 seemed too low also, but he swore it. I trust him too. He sells to me at good prices so why shouldn't I trust him, right? Like today I picked up a DPMS enhanced bolt carrier/bolt/key assembly, Charging handle, tactical latch, complete delta ring assembly , complete dust cover, forward assist assmy., and a gas tube all for $150. All brand new. I forgot to get a few flash hiders for $5 a piece. Anyway, he said that was what they told him his dealer cost would be.
I bought 6 brand new in wrap yesterday (10SEP) for $12.00 after tax(6.5%) each from a LE dealer, only thing is I cant pick them up till Monday. He showed me in his price sheets that is what the cops are paying
Cops are paying $11-15 dollars.
With the civie market now back open, I expect $7-10 new for 30 rounders. In free states of course. CRC |
Names... websites... emails... addresses of anyone selling cheap 20/30 rounders on Monday?
if dealer cost is 3.50 then we can expect for prices to drop to about 7.00 retail, maybe in a couple of months though
Wake up. This was well played across the board. Had he made it too much of an issue, the dems would have too. It was perfect, just look at the results. |
Zihng Zahng MFG in Wangsuk China probably I think decent MIL-SPECS will probably hover around ten bucks . |
Flush out your headgear, troop. You're slightly oblivious. |

YOU, the consumer will not be seeing $3.50, even if the mfg can ship it out the door for that unit price. There are costs to pkg, the cardboard box, packing material, shipping, then at the distributor, he has to pay someone to unpack big boxes, and put the orders to dealers in smaller boxes, and again, all these costs have to be paid, or the consumer does not get the product.
I would expect an item whose unit cost is $3.50 at the factory to retail for about $9.00-$10.00, depending on the dealer. If this item goes directly to a large discounter, who sells directly to the consumer, I doubt this could be done for less than $7.00 to the consumer. Anyone who has run a business can tell you this. In the '80's, USGI mags were many times listed at $10.00-$12.00, but the usual selling price was about $8.00. Unit price directly to the military was about $3.50-$4.00 in those days. I know I bought many of these mags at gun shows, mail order, for about $8.00 NIW, used gunshow mags for about $2-$3 each. Expect to pay about $10.00 for a USGI mag. And remember seeing "Genuine Colt" USGI 30's selling for $89, and non-Colts selling for as high as $40 each. I will gladly pay $10 each. |
A_FREE_MAN is right on. I'd expect to pay $3.50 a piece if I ordered a thousand mags, not only a dozen.
So, with this little gem in mind, WTH do people come in to a gun store and expect to walk out the door without paying more that what the dealer pays? People bitch that they see the prices in Shotgun News, but the dealer is $100 or more over that price? And BTW, $3.50 out the door means just that, $3.50 to make finish, pack, box and ship. |
Hmmm....... Maybe it's time to stock up.
One can never have too many mags, as we've discovered over the past 10 years.... |
Yeah, but I was makin "college kid" dollars in '93... and now? |
Every 30 rounder I have (only 15) is a used excellent condition USGI surplus. I bought them all in 92 and paid $4.00 each. I'd like to see that price again. I think $10.00 for new in the wrap is going to be about right. Used excellent condition Mags. should be in the $7.00 range. I hope.
Remember, in 1993 there was no Internet, and no E-Bay.
If Center is smart they will set up their own website and sell mags for 7 dollars @ direct from the factory. |
Oh wait, I am back a few years to prom night, by Golly there was drinkinking and panty dropping. HeHe
There is hope. |
+1,000,000 |
You never know. Im buying right after the ban ends just in case. Im not getting caught like last time. Now I know better. |
Hell I'm satisfied with getting factory NEW Colt mags for $20 each.
I'm not gonna bother with used crap now. |
u.s. army is currently paying $11 a pop.
let me know where they are 1/3 of that price, please. |
Oh yeah, I'm mentally logging that one for future use! |
