I posted yesterday about removing the fake telestock on my MT6400.  The crescent wrench finally worked out without resorting to those fancy "specialty tools" that make life easy.  Now for the fun that followed my success:

Step 1: Use wrong tool and scar the hell out of the old stock before you finally get it off.

Step 2: Unscrew the nut that is holding it on.

Step 3: Take a screwdriver to to remove washer thingy that goes against the receiver, then watch as the takedown pin spring goes flying across the room.

Step 4: Find the takedown pin spring

Step 5: Start unscrewing the stock from the receiver.  After 1 turn, watch as the buffer detent and spring go flying up barely missing your forehead.

Step 6: Collect all of the parts and wait patiently until Sept 13 to reassemble.

Well In my experience the tried and true classics like Fu*k or Sh*t would work well in this situation.

And the correct tools.

As someone what has occasionally tried to shortcut the tools issue, let me say that the correct tools are NECESSARY to doing a good job.

Proper profanity is much like a Gregorian chant.

Inspirational to those listening, and hot link to the gawd of all things gun.

OK, I call

1) No mention of Vise-Grips.
2) No mention of duct tape.
3) No mention of pry bar.
4) No mention of oxy-acetylene torch.
5) No mention of buddy next door.
6) No mention of "Hold my beer. Watch this."

No f-ed up job is complete without at least 3 of the above.

I think a good, healthy "sonofabitch" works well for situations like this, though I think "what the fuck" work work well too.

You forgot the hammer.

My dad (old Navy senior chief) used to say a good toolbox only had three things--a hammer, a bigger hammer, and a prybar.

I'll try to hit a couple of those when I install the new evil stock.

The first time I installed a quick release button on a USR the spring and the pin thingy flew out and nailed me right in the forehead.  The shittyest part is that Pete at PJS warned me about it.  I didnt believe him.

lol, that happened to me with the buffer detent and spring.  I backed my stubby stock off, (which I have done before without it happening because I was expecting it), but this time I wasn't paying attention, and that thing made this pop noise and that shit flew way the hell up and I finally found the spring later, barely missing my face.  My choice in profanity at that moment, "FUCK!" followed by laughter.

Be careful installing the new  stock. It is a well known fact that a rifle with a true telestock will suddenly start killing people left and right shortly after installation.

Whatever you do, for God's sake DO NOT put a bayonet on it.

THe easiest way to do it is to install the stock, turning it until it retains the buffer retainer and go just past the aligned position.
THat will give you enough room to insert the spring straight in.

Then use a thin blade screwdriver to compress the spring, turn the stock counter clockwise until the reciever plate is ligned up. Push towards the reciever unti lthe plate is against the blade of the screwdriverand then pull it out while seating the plate. Tighten the lock ring (put a little bit of blue locktite on the tube to keep the nut from backing off after you tighten it).

I went to the parts store one day to get an oil pump for my truck. As the cashier rang up the sale he asked me if I needed anything else.  I said I could use a few new motherfuckers and sonofabitches because I had used all mine up getting the old pump off. When he could talk again from laughing so hard; I deadpanned, I'll take used ones if you've got them cheaper. It was over for him then.

I made the mistake of taking apart a lower receiver on a balcony. I had a mat so I knew all the parts would stay on the mat and not fall between the slats of the balcony. Long story short, I spent 30 minuts looking for the selector switch detent downstairs. Also had to buy another rear takedown pin detent. Couldn't find it.

I bet I will still manage to lose detent pins. Bushmaster is going to make money selling spare part AR kits next week.

Standard AR disassembly sequence:
1) How's this work?
2) Oh, I get it.
3) Awsheeeit!  Where'd that thing fly off to?

Standard AR reassembly sequence:
1) How did this thing come apart again?
2) Oh yeah, that's it.
3) Repeat step 1)
