Up here in Michigan they just use "X" for storage floors.

Floor 1 and a ½.

I've been is some old buildings that have had ½ floors. But they didn't have elevators.

Parking garage level prior to one of the floors.  I've seen a couple of hotels in Fort Worth do that.  Others just have the 'P' for parking.

I was looking for a floor 12A and 12B. Some Hotels do that to skip the 13th floor. A little to superstisious (sp?), me thinks.

Most of the ones I've seen just go from 12 to 14.

At the hospital I work at the Sheriffs Department uses the 13th floor for a locked down medical ward. Seems appropriate.

I worked in a building like that up here. Back in the day they needed storage floors because they had so many paper files. They would make a floor that was only a few feet high (in the case of the building I was in it was 8 feet total, so between the floor and ceiling the head room was about 6 feet. They called them half floors and they are reachable by elevators and everything. The advantage to them was that back in the day total building height was limited by story count, not by the total height.

By adding a half floor and a penthouse level the official height was still 12 stories, which was the legal limit (fire main pressure in the old days was the limiting factor). In real life the building was 14 stories.

In Denmark, a lot of elevators have a light on the panel that is labeled "I FART"

(which is danish for "in motion" - roughly translated, so it lights up whenever the elevator is moving)

For someone that is a Ph.D., you have a pretty immature sense of humor.

If Mike Judge ever does a new Beavis and Butthead movie, I hope it's called 'Beavis and Butthead Do Denmark'. That way we can get to see them get on an elevator and push the "I Fart" button and chuckle hilariously as they slowly read the panel.

"Uhhhhhhh huh huh huh huh huh, I just pushed the fart button......uh huh huh huh huh!"
