Actually,
It is either "Hoo-ah" or "Ooo-rah". The first being Army, the second being Marines. (the hyphen was added for propper pronunctiation) I believe the Navy has a version that goes something like "Hoo-yah". This may be only for the SEALs though. The Air Force has one that goes "Agh, you messed up my hair."

Thanks for fixing it, that's better for us picky folks.
Acutually, more often than "Ooorah" I always just heard "Urrr". It ranges in length but is basically a way of saying "Hi" and is often the response given by a senior NCO to a junior NCO when the junior NCO offers salutations. For example: "Good morning, Staff Sgt." Staff Sgt: "Urr" Sometimes you get an "Oorah Devil Dog." or a "Good morning, Marine." It seems to depend on the senior NCO's mood or general level of motivation. |

The Airmen are encouraged to say "Air Power", however at my last command most of them simply said "Hooah" like their Army Bretheren. I guess they were getting back to their roots?
And a resounding HOOAH to my fellow soldiers who continue to kick ass around the globe. |

As a Marine Vet (Kilo company 3rd Bttn. 6th Marines) of a little "Bush)" war in central america over Christmas 15 year ago, I say thank you and thank you to our vets in the Middle east. Kill them all and let God (not Allah, who the fuck is that?) sort them out.
