I have had my first "after the ban" experience with a local FFL. I went into the shop keeping my mouth shut, playing stupid, the owner comes out and asks if I need any help, I tell him I am interested in a black rifle, this is where the fun begins. He had a plain jane Bushy 16" carbine (basically an A2 rifle with plain barrel regular carry handle upper and A2 butt stock, sticker price $999.99, he took it sown and gives the standard "its the top of the line model just like the Marines use" bit, so I just nod my head, and ask if he iw willing to come down on price, he tells me those are hard to come by adn he really isn't making any profit at that price already, if he comes down he would be losing money, at this point I decide to turn the screws a little. I asked him if, it wouldn't be kind of hard to get rid of a preban rifle once the ban ended, and he gave me an answer that I couldn't have dreamed up.

This is what he told me:

The ban isn't really ending on monday, it is sunsetting, which is different, once it sunsets you won't be able to buy these types of rifles at all anymore, and they are going to be raising the prices of any "presunset" guns in stock by five hundred dollars at least.

I left without buying anything, but as I left he told me that he would be open tomorrow and that he would still honor the $999.99 dollar price.

He sure seemed to think I would, of course I do look a little dumb.

Edited to add: This is exactly the kind of thing I expected from that dealer, but I wouldn't have thought he would be so blatant about it, I guess I gave him to much credit in the imagination category.

Given the fact that many GUN-OWNERS don't really understand what's going on I say that fucktards like this guy are still going to be able to scam a LOT of money from customers for MONTHS to come.

You guys in "Free America" just need to keep spreading the word to all gun-owners that you meet. That will hit guys like this with a clue stick (or a "going out of business sign") real fast.

Gun stores employees are our friends, unethical pieces of shit who claim to be guns store employees are the enemy. I have been in gun and pawn shops where they regularly sold guns for decent prices, there was one in NC

where I bought two pistols within a week, I walked in on a lark and found a like new (preowned) CZ100 with all of the accesories for a $190 out the door, I had to get a pistol permit, so I put up a $189 dollar down payment and came back on friday with a fresh supplies of permits, lo and behold they had a Hungarian high power

clone for $200 out the door.

I swear... I have heard more misleading BS in a gunshop than I ever heard on the internet.

There are the occasional guys who know their stuff, but they seem to be getting rare.

This dealer has given me the idea of calling the rifles made during the ban the name "presunset" guns, I like it much better than, any of the other terms that accurately describe them.

I know they have to make a living, but if they were honest and forthright with me, they would have a customer for life and make more money off me as a repeat customer than they would by ripping me off (or trying at least) once. I am sure some people will fall for it. Alot of non-gun people will hear about the ban going away and decide to go out and buy one, thinking they were all banned. Not knowing the difference, they will get a streamline model (that is code for no bayo lug or flash hider). Those things aren't needed and just make it heavier.

I have bought guns from dealers here in NC and they have been above board. No jacking up of prebans even as the bans approached... Galil AR in 1989 for $750, Colt 6700 flat top for $740, and so on. There are good guys out there too.
