I just went to the Burgoo festival in Arenzville,IL.Burgoo is kind of a vegatable soup but more mushy.

Pretty good stuff and a good time, crafts, homemade pie, ribeye sandwiches, kids rides etc.

If any one is in the central Il you should stop by and pay them a visit.

Burgoo is found at most every BBQ joint around these parts. The ingredients vary from place to place but they are all pretty good.

You should go to the Burgoo in Utica, Jm.

too bad the range down the road isn'y open yet.

Nobody I know locally has tried it though, ...more like road kill stew.

I have alot of friends in Utica, the stories they would tell about " stuff" that found its way into the big pots.

burgoo has along long history.  Kind of like chili among those that make it.  Everybody has the worlds best recipe and secret ingredients.

Isn't basically soup with cracker crumbs?  Developed from sailors crushing hardtack into "soup"

But that is what makes it so good.

Ive heard all the stories about dogs dissappearing, horses, cats, etc.

Still taste damn good though.

And the PIE was excellent.

What's that big BBQ festival in Central KY that makes those huge kettles of burgoo??

I can't remember the town.

I thought burgoo was originally hillbilly gumbo. Possum Stew.

Good shit. I like it a little on the spicy side.
