Just read a post by a non-native english speaker and was wondering what resources we had on ARF.com for other languages. Please sound off with languages you speak and proficiency.
I speak spanish fluently thanks to 2 years in South America. Understand portugese, french and italian (written of course) |

I give this thread 8 posts before the Samuel L Jackson pic shows up........

I am proud to say I am comfortably MONOLINGUAL.
I did study Russian in highschool, and I remember a little bit. A few phrases... and I can still read cyrillic... |
I here DK-Prof speaks some mean Dutch.
I can speak passable German and Spanish. My Russian is extremely poor due to lack of use over the past thirteen years. |
One.....barely.
But I took 3 yrs of German in high school a very long time ago. Too bad I didn't really study. Too many hot chicky snacks. Also took a short class in Spanish once. Amounted to about 12 hours of classroom time. |
Well... I can greet people in about 10 languages but thats about it.
I am moderately fluent in Ebonics though. |
yeah i forgot that one. I speak that too |
I speak fluent English, Spranglish, Ebonics, HaiKu, and the international language of love.
I was going to post it but can't find it on the 'puter. But anyway, I only speak one, English. |
That would make you a cunilinguist. Me? English, Spanish, and Drunk! |
Bastard! Ironically, I used to speak fluent Dutch when I was a kid in the Netherlands, but when we moved to Germany I sorta forgot the Dutch when I learned German. I became fluent in German to the point of being indistinguishable from a native speaker - but after neglecting it for so long, I've now lost a lot of the vocabulary. However, I am still completely fluent (i.e . as a native speaker) in English and Danish (and passable in Swedish and Norwegian, since all three are really just dialects of one anotehr). |
Fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and have a decent working knowledge of German (managed to survive a few months in Germany by myself). Oh yeah, and Engrish too.
Damn... I thought I had that one! I'm going to have to find it and save it to my server!! |
I'm fluent in idiot, moron, drunk, english, and management. Management's a real tough one to master, too...so many nuances... |

Last time I checked I can order beer and say thanks in 16. Thats good enough for me.
at least you'll never be thirsty |
English only..... the international language & by far the most superior on this planet.
English and French...
And DK Prof... Grandma immigrated here and wanted to teach... that is all I can remember.. FMO |
English of course,
and spanish from two years spent in Venezuela. |
At least nobody has chimed in with Klingon, Elvish, or Jive.
I took German for 5 years with one year being college level. So much has been forgotten though.
I am fluent in 13375p3@k though. |

[Korben Dallas] I only speak two languages - English and bad English. [Korben Dallas]
English, but if DLI offered Ebonics, I might consider reupping!
I actually have the klingon learning tapes. Also sindarin and quenya(ELVISH) are dialects of what is spoken in Finland today. Kiitos. Did my geek tatoo just light up. hello and thank you in several languages, but I aways end up hearing spanish from portugeuse speakers. That's what happens to a texas boy in brazil.

Native German speaker here.
English is my second, but now better language. |

Dang, beat me to it! |

I'm flunent in German, Farsi and naturally English...I've been told I don't have the slightest accent in any of them.

I can order beer and hookers on any continent and three planets. Good communication skills.

I speak ENGLISH!… if they can't be bothered to learn my language , why should I bother to learn their gibberish!
Actually I also speak French reasonably well, and can get by in German and Italian. I was a fluent Gealic speaker when I was a kid in Ireland… completely lost it now. ANdy |

So you admit to being one of the 4 people on Earth who can actually speak Esperanto? |

German was my first language, then English even though I was born a US citizen. Go figure. A little Italian, Spanish and more than a working knowledge of Arabic. I can also at least order a beer, swear, and get my face slapped in a few other languages.
