Check out this propaganda. Notice how much mention was given to those opposed to renewal:
Mayor, Police Urge Assault Weapons Ban Extension Daley: Never Good To Put More Guns On Streets POSTED: 7:56 pm CDT September 8, 2004 UPDATED: 8:47 pm CDT September 8, 2004 CHICAGO -- With the federal ban on assault weapons set to expire next Monday, a study by a non-profit group indicates that gun manufacturers are ready to sell military-style firearms as soon as Sept. 14, while gun-control advocates are calling for an extension of the ban. "The gun industry is chomping at the bit for the ban to expire," said Susan Peschin, firearms project director at the Consumer Federation of America, a nonprofit association of 300 consumer groups that released the study. In Chicago, Mayor Richard M. Daley and Chicago Police Superintendent Phil Cline joined community leaders in calling for an extension of the ban and expressed their concern over a new law that could allow more Americans to carry concealed weapons. NBC5's Charlie Wojciechowski reported that the bill is known as the Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act, but the group that helped draft it calls it the National Concealed-Carry For Cops Law. It's a federal law that would let current and former police officers carry concealed guns almost anywhere, and Daley said it could be even more dangerous than allowing the assault weapons ban to expire. "This law has serious problems," Daley said at a news conference Wednesday. "First of all, it's never a good idea to put more guns on the street." The proof is plain to see, Chicago police say: fewer weapons on the street means fewer gun deaths. With more than 7,000 guns confiscated in an aggressive police effort so far this year, there have been 90 fewer murders this year than at the same time last year, police statistics indicate. Concerned Chicagoans voiced a call that's being echoed around the country with police chiefs and educators demanding that President George W. Bush tell Congress to move on the measure before it expires on Monday. "I stand before you today urging you to end the cycle of devastation that assault weapons cause by renewing the ban that is already in place," said community activist John Abercrombie. The 1994 law, signed by President Clinton, banned 19 types of assault weapons but included a "sunset" clause that said it would automatically expire in 10 years if Congress did not renew it. Bush has said he supports the ban, but a number of attempts to extend it in Congress have failed. The Consumer Federation of America predicted that manufacturers will introduce new models of popular weapons banned under the 1994 law, such as AK-47s, TEC-9s and Uzis. Manufacturers will also be able to circumvent a ban on the import of "non-sporting" assault weapons by combining foreign-made components with U.S.-made parts, the study said. It said it also expects more U.S. gun companies will stockpile imported firearms in "custom bonded warehouses" in the United States to be disassembled and reconfigured into legal weapons. In April, Florida-based Century International Arms Inc., an importer-exporter, was linked to a cache of 7,500 AK-47s and other assault weapons seized in Italy en route to the United States. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the weapons were cleared for the United States because they were bound for a custom-bonded warehouse to be reconfigured. Gun-control advocates are calling for an extension of the ban and also want to expand background checks on gun purchasers to include sales by private collectors at gun shows and flea markets. Opponents say both measures are unneeded. "What we ought to be concerned about is firearms in the hands of criminals, not in the hands of law-abiding citizens," said Andrew Arulanandam, director of public affairs for the National Rifle Association. |

Thats why im taking interest, I just moved here and I didn't know the NAZIS still held office in this century. They Tried to ban AWs and CCWs in Colorado(where im from) but then WELINGTON WEB(asshole) left office and the GOP took over, HMMMM freaking amasing! Now Aws are LEGAL and I just got my CCW. Now You want to talk about CRIME. Do some research and look at the crime rate when WEB was in office and now the rate with the current admin. I know It sure as fuck has not risen due to Murderous semi-auto weapons on the street. Or people having the ability to protect themselves and their families. By issuing CCW permits. When is the last time you saw a criminal with a CCW? To bad survival of the fittest doesn't apply anymore. The reason Bullshit laws like the AWB get passed is, Generally People are lazy, scared and ignorant, they want someone else to protect them. But they are to chickenshit to do it themselves. So they feel a law will stop some badguy from obtaining one of the 200,000,000 guns in this country. Let alone pull another Hollywood BANK ROBBERY. OORAH! to All my USMC brothers that posted and voted! Especially my 1st MAR DIV TEUFEL HUNDEN. |
