Heard this line of reasoning by someone scared of the patriot act, that American citizens are being held at GITMO for expressing thier first amendment rights.

Told him he was wrong and that only enemy combatants were held there. (there may be american citizens caught overseas in the fighting tho, I'll make the caveat).

I'm pretty sure I'm right, but I wanna become damn sure before I bet money on this. He's a real good friend, I'd be more concerned about this if he voted... but he doesn't as he's terrified that whoever he votes for might win and then whatever they'd do is his fault... he's kinda snarky like that.

Also if you could push me in the direction of the actual new powers granted by the Patriot act that would help too.

I am pretty sure no US citizens are being held at Gitmo.  A couple are being held in military prisons in the COnUS (including Padilla and one other guy who is a Saudi but was born in the USA and left when he was a few months old).

Oh, no, there's LOTS of US citizens being held in Gitmo. Just ask those assholes over in DUh. Every time someone tried to vote Dim, they were shipped off to Gitmo. Yessireebob.

GITMO has not one thing to do with the Patriot Act. The detainees at GITMO were captured overseas NOT in the US.

Nobody know who is being held at Gitmo, they are withholding that info and not releasing names. But I thought they were POWs from Afghanistan, mostly. Maybe some AlQaeda captured elsewhere.

Damn! everybody knows they have concentration camps in the good ol' US of A for enemies of the state!
