Yesterday here in Houston an 18 wheeler loaded with 9000 gallons of gas jack-knifed and split open.  I saw the smoke right after it started and decided to go investigate.

I'm still working on the video I shot, let me know if you all want me to post it as well.  But in the mean time, I thought you would enjoy some photos of the mess.

They pressed charges on the driver today for not controlling his speed.  No shit he didn't control his speed!

I always get the creeps driving near/passing by tankers on the highway. A giant molotov cocktail on wheels.

Man there were numerous big truck wrecks yesterday. They had a tanker truck carrying motor oil crash yesterday near my house in SE Texas. All the oil spilled out onto the road and caused all the cars to slide and pileup. Wasn't pretty.

add: oh yeah and they also had that tanker truck run off the road in FL yesterday and into the ocean.

surprisingly,  no one got hurt..  I saw it from the other side of the houston skyline first..  it looked
like with the bellows of smoke straight up that a building downtown was on major fire..  then driving
past downtown I could see it was south of Galleria on 610.. one person was coaxed out of their white suvby a lady  just in time for in to start burning..  he was afraid and didnt want to get out..

I got to get the sound card on my computer fixed, I'll bet that fire was ROARING.

Could you feel the heat from where you were shooting the video?

I was 200-250 feet away, probably too close but oh well.  It felt like I was standing within ten feet of a roaring campfire.  I was wearing shorts and could feel the heat on my legs and my arms.  As it turns out the guy that was in the SUV that had to be coaxed out is a friend of my office manager.  Apparently he hit his head pretty good when the initial accident happened and while sitting there stunned, some lady was yelling to him that he needed to exit the vehicle pronto.  I still have not heard about any injuries, but it did tie up a MAJOR section of roadway from lunch until after rush hour.

Reinforced concrete and they barricaded that part of the freeway until they could work on it, Hopefully this weekend.

If the road was concrete and not asphalt, heat will still mess it up. Concrete pops like poppcorn when exposed to extreme heat.

I used to drive a gas truck...to think that could have been me.  Worse accident I saw while driving was a driver about 30 minutes ahead of me fell asleep going from Beumont to Lufkin around Woodville and ran off the road and uprooted a large oak tree.  Tank didn't blow and none was spilled.

Saw it on the news last night.  Apparently the same truck has been 20+ accidents since 2000.  Not sure if it was the same driver but its under investigation

I watched the firefighters spray water on this thing for 10 minutes with no effect other than creating a whole lot of steam.  The water didn't even look like it reached the fire.

well they are cool pics and video, but I wouldn't say we "enjoyed" it. that would sound kinda sadistic especially if people were injured or killed.

You can enjoy watching something regardless, but what I meant was you guys would appreciate seeing something like this.  Did you "enjoy" watching the Iraq helicopter or bombing videos?  Same difference.
