My Uncle died today after a long fight with cancer. My wife told me when I came home from work today.
He was with the 82nd Airborne in WW2. And then did his time as a policeman. He was the guy that when we came over he would teach us tricks and play jokes on us. We would go on walks after dinner and he would tell me stories about him in the war or when he was a policeman after. I am glad we got to go back to NY this summer to visit him and so he could see my new son and my daughter again. He was my hero and I will miss him very much.  If you can give a little prayer for his wife of over 60 years to be strong.

Sorry about your loss. I had an uncle that was 82nd he lost an eye in France All American all the way. Heroes all.

I am truly saddened to hear of your family's, and our nation's, loss.
When I was growing up, we still had Spanish-American War veterans around. Then my grandfather's WWI Generation started dying, but their sons, the WWII Generation, were still in their prime. Sadly, that 'greatest generation' is slowly but surely leaving us.... This evening, I will pray for you, your family, and most importantly, your uncle and the nation that he served so faithfully. We deal badly with death. All will die, we have a natural life span. The body simply stops making repairs. Your uncle went the distance, something many of us will not do...
Have a short grieving session, then celebrate his life. That's what we plan to do for my father who is currently in his 70s and is declining. |
