I was listening to them doing a roll call vote and it hit me:

Without KERRY and EDWARDS, there are not likely enough votes to get past 50.     And Cheney ("I spoke at the NRA") gets to be the tie-breaker.

Seems to me that  we can figure out pretty clearly whether anything at all is afoot by keeping an eye on Kerry and Edwards to see if they're in Washington DC.  

If they show up, it may be meaningful.   If they've no plans to do so, I'd say this thing is dead as a door nail.
