when did the AR15 or M16 come in 7.62 as an issue weapon?
As for which one to buy... Armalite and bushmaster would be tops on my list. Armalite to me has an edge in QC and finish. Also a lifetime warranty. mike |

The M16 is a 5.56x45mm (also called .223 Remington in the US) rifle, as is the semi-auto version, the AR15.
The AR10 was/is a 7.62x51mm (.308 Winchester) rifle. The closest thing to the current-issue M16A2 would be a pre-ban Bushmaster with 20" A2-profile barrel, or a Colt Government Model. -Troy |

It would fit between the .308 (7.62x51) and 30-06 (7.62x63[or 64]) and wouldn't fit the AR10 mag./receiver, let alone the AR15/M16. |

I have seen AR10's and many other military rifles chambered for T-65, which is a 7.62 variant.

But no AR10 or AR15 mag well will hold a 308 with a 56 mm case.The T65 was never that long
I believe parrish is incorrect or pulling someone's leg |
