Heres one for yall that has been bugging me for a while. I'm AD AF and on the gov't computers I can go to Ebay, DU, Moveon.org and countless other places yet I can't go to sigarms.com, colt or other gun sale realted sites because apparently they are deemed to "mature" for my use, or at least that is what the gov't filter tells me. No shit I can't go to the Falfiles forums because it is mature/chat but I can go to DU with no problems. I can't go to Gunbroker because it is mature/online sales but I can go to Ebay all day long. I'm only here because of the weaponsforum mirror af ARF. Now is it just me or does this not really go along with the AF "warrior" spirit they keep telling us about, how bad is it when your own gov't/military says you can't look at guns because you are not mature enough for them. Just needed to get it off my chest, not sure if this is the place so sorry if it offends somebody.

Man I saw that thing at clothing sales. It's even uglier and goofier in person. It reminds me of pajamas.

Filtering of the internet is a very common thing in corporate America also. It won't change when you get out of the AF.

Yep that was a real bitch for me too when I was AD. For all of about 5 min.

The blocking software they use @ work is pretty weak and all you need to do is use a proxy server to get around it. A lot of them have free trial browsers that you can use. In the past I've used some of the ones listed HERE

You can use these to go ANYWHERE on the web because they basically trick the AF software into thinking you are surfing somewhere other than where you are but, if the comm geeks happen to peek in on you while you are at a "qusetionable" site they will still be able to see what you see, so I'd stay away from the porn. Other than that, happy surfing!

Its a base issue not an AF issue. Get used to it. BTW there is no censorship in the military. You signed the bottom line.

Try "working" while you're at work.  Surf the net on your own computer on your own time.

"warrior spirt" and "air force" go together like pickles and ice cream.  no one joins the airforce for "warrior spirit" the airforce is a govt subsidized corporation with a culture not unlike one you'd find in a large company in the private sector. political correctness is ruining our military and our nation!!!!

edit to add:   the govt uses really cheap proxies in most cases. just open a command prompt, ping the website you want to go to, then when DNS resolves the URL into an IP for the ping type that numerical IP address into the browser and it will probably work. if they upgraded ot "Websense" youre probably screwed

The fact that he is a volunteer doesn't matter.  There is a growing consensus in this country that guns are bad and this filtering of Internet access is proof.

Free speech and such freedoms DO NOT exist in the military.

Just try criticizing your CinC.
