I keep seeing magpulls or tape/cord attached to the bottom of people’s magazines. When I hit my mag release the mag drops straight out. What do you need a magpull type device for?

It's not to get them out of the rifle, it's to get them out of the pouch/vest and put IN your rifle.

They help you get your mag out of a pouch easier/faster.  When doing  tac load, you can hook your dropped mag on your pinkie while loading a fresh mag.

Of if you don't like to use the loop part, the wife band around the base gives you alot more "grip".
