Pretty much no matter where you live you can get a CCW (from another state) that works in about 2/3 of the US.  Florida is one. Just an FYI.

It still sticks in my craw that I have to petition the State for its blessing to carry concealed, but I gotta get it done.

Carrying openly around here frightens the wimmen still.

The wife is doing fine.  I am impressed, and humbled, that some of you remember the "My wife does not want me to carry" thread.

She is fine so far.  I picked it up at 1:00 today.  Have not carried yet.  (I might bring it to bed tonight...but where do I hide it??)

The sheriff was real cool when I went to get it.  He gave me some advice re: what to do if I get pulled over.

Never fails to amaze me how difficult it is for everyone else to get CCW.  Here in IN, you get printed, a form thats notorized, and $25 then you just sit back and wait.  3 weeks or so later, you'll get a pink sheet of paper in the mail and you have to CUT your license out of that, and laminate it yourself.  Its so absurdly simple, and you can get it at 18.  We can always use more good folks in Indiana.  Congrats Lablover on your permit.

For God's sake, are you nuts? Have you learned nothing from reading posts here? I sense answers involving the words "pooper" and "pics" with a question like that....

Seriously, glad to hear it hasn't been a major issue for you guys. Once you've got her checking you for printing, she'll be ready to cross to the dark side.

damn that looks professional. mine looks like i made it with my computer. no lamination, special paper, or photo on mine either. until now i took for granted how simple getting a ccw here bama was. some of you really have to jump through hoops to carry. here there's no test etc. just $15 for the background check. the first time you have to wait a/b a week for te b/g check and after that each year when its time to renew; go to the sherrif's office pay another $15 and they print you out another one. easy as pie!

sorry i'm not trying to rub it in.

What was his advice?

Sorry to leave ya'll hanging with that little teaser.

He advised me that my CCW info would be put into LEEDS, which I am guessing is the database used by law enforcement when asking for driver's licence, plate info, etc.  If I am stopped by a policeman and my license is run, he will know that I have a CCW.

His advice:

If the carry weopon is on me, it must be in view, on my person, when I am pulled over OR in a locked box or locked glove compartment.   So, adjust the firearm, adjust the clothing, etc, BEFORE I get in the car.  Do not want to be fidgeting around when pulled over.  Both hands on the steering wheel, advise the officer I have a CCW licence and advise whether or not I am carry and the location of the firearm.  "What would you like me to do?"

I am glad the wife let you get it.

The cops advice seems silly. Where are you going carry that it can be seen from the left/right upper corner of your drivers side window ?

.38 pocket revolver and a nemesis holster. I wish I could carry my DE .45 and a paddle holster all the time, but except for camping in the fall and winter I can't. The .38 pocket gun is always there.

LEEDS throws up a flag as if  you have warrants, from there they have find out what kind which then tells them CCW. Kinda stupid the away it works right now. Screw "adjust the firearm, adjust the clothing, etc, BEFORE" - Your going to do all that in the parking lot where people can see? Time to get arrested for inciting a panic, when the broad parked next to you calls the cops on the man with a gun.
If you get pulled over, you have plenty of time to "adjust" anything. What determins  in plain view is undefined and most cops will be cool about it, the one who isnt will be a dick no matter what.

LEADS, The Law Enforcement Automation Data System, didn't have a field for CCW.
So the programmers, had to make the hack. LEADs was done in OLD School systems last I worked with it. if it's still old school, only way to make changes that don't take years is to do hacks.

Sounds like they did the hack. They cal in the plate to LEADS as they follow/chase you mostly.
So when he is aproching your car, he may or may not already have the disposition on your warrents.

he may be waiting for dispatch who is running them for him to call back. they mostly wait before leaving the car, so he should know when approching you.

If a big delay in the Leads Wants and Warrents package comming back to the computer system, he might go forward. I don't know the policy, only what I saw when I used to work with it.

think of it this way. your summary record has the flags, then they have to request detial records out of transaction files. so your details, Clean or warrents can come bacck fast, and the wants and warrents transacctions can take longer sometimes.
