Foxnews just said there were 1200 hostages and the government lied. The locals finally took it into their own hands for a good reason.

It is possible that the government deliberately underrreported the number because they were trying to keep the locals calm, or it is possible that they reported what they had confirmed, and weren't sure about the rest.


No the locals would have know the number of hostages that were there, the Russian Government was clearly trying to hide the numbers form the rest of the country.

They said the media was controlled and not allowed to broadcast the situation and played a soap opera instead. The locals knew the real score and thats why they took up arms and went in on their own.
Media control in Russia doesnt suprise me but its an insight into why the local did what they did.
