All of this BOTD stuff has got me to thinkin'. Is there some kind of test you can take to determine the type of woman that you're attracted to?  I've often thought about this, I've seen shows on Discovery Ch.  about beauty and what people find attractive and wonder just how far Phycalogists have gotten in understanding what we find attractive. I know they came up with a ratio that's suppose to be pleasing to the eye but other then that what makes me find brunettes with long hair and dark eyes attractive? Is it something in my genetic make-up or does it have something to do with a "first memory" of someone that I saw. Do we look for people of our own "type", that is to say if we're a certain type do we look for someone that's similar?  This has always puzzled me, I  wish I'd have gone to school and taken Phycalogy and got a grant to fund a study in this field.  The workings of the human mind have always been of intrest to me.  Why is it that I think that Phoebe Cates is an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10 but others think that some other chick is cute when I'd only give that chick a 6?  This is a puzzlement for damn sure.

Its called porn.    You look at lots of women, and figure out what turns you on.

At least for the physical side of things anyway.

I know my type, but lately i'm thinking about dropping standards down to just a couple requirements:  breathing and weighing less than I do.  A few years at an engineering school in a small town (read that as: no liberal arts women) will give you a good look at the life of a monk....and its not appealing

hows that saying go?

variety is the spice of life  (?)

I find myself attracted to younger women, brunettes in particular.  There is no 'cookie cutter' type that I'm attracted to, I go for the whole package.  Now, I could tell you exactly (~) what I "like", but  I'll spare y'all!

and it seems that I get along great with married women for some reason.
It's kinda depressing!

thanks to CJ, who said "How about arrogant self centered lying bitches. At least thats what i have ended up lately"
I kinda blocked that out of my head...they're either as Jack said or messed up in the head... OR BOTH!!

From a psychoanalytical vs. physical standpoint, I believe it would be broken down in categories.  I'm not certain what those would be exactly but I can guess a few.

1. Physical.  Your personal interpretation of child rearing and child bearing potentiality

2. Mental. Relationship dominance.  You vs. partner or equitability.

3. Physical.  Symmetrical physique.

4. Mental.  Similar beliefs and values commenserate with personal morality.

It's a good thing we have different preferences, otherwise we'd all be fighting for the same women!

My standards are as follows:

1)  Pulse
2)  Brain activity
3)  Must come shooting with me

I don't have a hair preference... the last girl I asked out didn't have any  (genetic disorder... don't ask)

It's too bad you can't do something like that Police Drawer does where you pick out the eyes and the nose and the lips and face shape then you add the hair type/color to make up the perfect face.  I think it'd be neat to see what everyone likes. Like I said before, she'd look a lot like Phoebe Cates, I think she's about as perfect as a women can get as far as looks go.

There's a software called Faces that lets you create... well... faces. It's meant as a police sketch tool, and has a way to store the info in an INTERPOL format... but you can use it to basically create the sketch of your perfect women... at least neck-up. But it is black-and-white, not color.

For me it's all about the "spark".  Some women have it no matter what they look like.  Could be the sound of her voice, the way she moves, scent, personality traits.

For instance I don't find blondes attractive.  And I prefer women who are 5'1" - 5' 5".  And I like very feminine women.  But one of my old girlfriends is 5' 11" and blonde and extremely independent and I always found her wildly attractive.

Maybe this is just my way of saying 1. warm and 2. female

I had to Google "Phoebe Cates" to see who the hell she was, damn I'm old

FWIW, she doesn't do it for me, not unattractive, mind you, but nothing I would move heaven & earth for.

Some of my friends have dated girls who always have the same look, not me, tall, short, blonde, brunette, talkative and, well, more talkative

Have you been to e-harmony.com?
There is a commercial on television promoting thier website and I think that they have a detailed test that gives you the correct type of womenz. They may even give you a list of women who match.

If you are looking for a test, that is the closest thing I can think of.

E-Harmony is more of a personality test, I'm simply talking about looks. I think a lot of it is genetic, kind of like a tiger finding another tiger attractive but maybe not a lion attractive.  I've seen pictures of my birth mom and my mom's mother and they fit the "type". Dark hair, dark eyes, you're basic Yugoslavian looking woman. It's the same with Romainina women, I like the look. I also think the Irish in my makes red haired women attractive to me.  My adopted moms family was very different from the "type" of women that I like so it's not something that I learned by growing up around that type, it's got to be more genetic. I think alot of things are ingrained into us by genetics, food preferences, likes and dislikes, the type of women we find attractive, I think genetics play more of a part in our lives then we're sometimes willing to admit.

Going back to your original question: Why do you like what you like?
Simple answer is that no one knows why yet. Psychology is working on it, but there really are no definitive answers at the moment for why anyone thinks anything actually, not just attraction.
There are numerous theories, but each person seems to be different. While some could say that attraction for you is caused by pheromones, others could say that it is life's experience, still even others say it's genetically programmed into you. All can support their theories with facts and at least some data, but  no theory as yet can be proven to hold true for everyone. So the bottom line is: there really is no answer to your question yet.

1) and 4) matter to me greatly. Throw brains in the mix (brains, I say, NOT education-with a tip o' the hat to someone who pointed that out to me) and thta's how I 'judge' women.

Hourglass shape, nice skin, body designed for birthing and feeding, extremely high morals, serious faith in God, brains.

All of the above, you have my attention.

I understand what you are saying and it makes a lot of sense to me.

I always enjoyed different types(looks, ethnic persuasion, etc..) of women while I was dating, but when it came to a serious relationship that lead to marriage, there was one particular look that I was drawn to, and my wife fit that description perfectly. There was a level of attraction that went deeper than anything I ever experienced and I believe it was partly due to a genetic predisposition.

That's exsactly what I'm talking about oneshot1kill. There is a "type" that just draws you in. Something about the look of them that you just can't resist.  Phoebe Cates is the closest that I can get to my "type". It seems like most of the women that I find attractive have her look. I just wonder if it's genetic or kind of a "first memory" kind of deal.  I wish I had the education to get a grant to do a research study on this. I think it would be worth it to find out what's going on inside our head(big head, not little one.LOL) when we see our "type" of woman.  What parts of the brain are triggered, why and what exsactly triggers them, is it parts(eyes, nose, lips, hair) or the whole package.

Got to be warm, affectionate, and I like the tomboys...more likily to come rapelling/hiking/shooting/sparring with me. (What can I say? Having a chick in my sleeping bag is far better than being alone in it.)

Barns are a good place to have some fun....romping in the hay....

Oh yeah, physical attributes: Tallish, athletic, little bit of weight is fine, Ribs more prominent  than mine = bad.

Pelvic bone that you can get your whole hand wrapped around = MAJOR turnoff.
