Lots of heavy news and topics lately so I thought I'd relate something a friend of mine told me yesterday. He's from a small farm town in Northern California and when he went to college in a larger town in Central Cal, his apartment was near several businesses. To his chagrin and dismay, being a good Christian, one of them appeared to be a strip club that catered to blacks, and he wasn't sure how the town's Better Business Bureau allowed it to maintain a presence if only due to the name: The Black Anus. Naturally, he avoided getting anywhere close to it and was sure his parents would be horrified and insist that he move when they came to visit him.
He worried for several weeks, until its neon sign sign was repaired to reveal the establishment's correct name: The Black Angus. (It's a steak place.)

Was also the name of a very famous Puerto Rican brothel (now closed).

Growing up in my hometown there was a Shell gas station near the interstate with a huge sign missing the "S". It was like that for years. Welcome to HELL.

In my neighborhood these guys would set up shop were there wasn't a nudie bar

I remember going to college and watching this guy in a cowboy hat going up and down the escalator several times. Being the good guy that I am, I went over to him and asked if he needed some help. He says "Nope. I've never been on an escalator before." True story...

My buddy actually does look a bit like the character Jack Tripper and played it up at times; in fact, he used to get stopped for autographs quite a bit when he visited L.A.

Saw a banner sign in San Gabriel the other day. Was 222 W. Las Tunads, was supposed to be Las Tunas.
