had a spyderco police, one day I opened it and spring and lock broke. Sent it to spyderco and they shipped me a new knife really fast.

less than a week from receiving the new knife it broke. This was probably the 7th or 8th opening with this knife.

WTF is up with the spyderco police.

I'm in CA so I don't have a CCW a good (big) folder is about the best thing you can get to defend yourself here (legally)

any recommendations?

Ask for a different model.

I have three Spyderco Delicas of various edges and constructions (aluminum grip/stainless steel grip) and in my experience, they wear out more than break.

Give them another chance IMHO.

CRKT has been holding up form me for, darn, I'm not sure how long now, but quite some time

greg with spyderco is like me with timex... every one of them I get, fails.

I have had good service from all the Emerson knives I own.
YMMV.

I have never thought much of Spyderco blades (they feel like a cheap POS in my hand) but, some claim differently.

I have a Benchmade 910 Stryker for 10 years now, it has never failed me yet. It is as reliable as the first day I've had it.

2 Spyderco Delicas that are over 10 years old here and going strong everyday.
Thing change , mabe that model was a shitting batch. Try another model or go Emerson.

Try the Military model instead. It's got a black fiber body that can take a beating. I've been abusing mine for years.

I like my Kershaw Vapor II and both CRKTs I have . They're not overly expensive and they do everything I need them for. Take care

No trouble with my Spydercos at all.
But I would HIGHLY recommend Emersons, especially the Commander with wave feature.
I have three different Emersons and they get some pretty hard use and still work like new.

For the $$, CRKT does right by me. I'm pretty surprised about that Spyderco though, I'd give them the chance to make it right.

Cold Steel. I have a Voyager 4.5" that I bought when they came out. It's probably 8-10 years old now.

I bought a Cold Steel Voyager with the intention of upgrading to a Benchmade or Spdeco later on. In the 12 years since, I've only bought more Cold Steel knives.
