I purchased the season 1 & 2 DVDs recently, and have been watching this show rabidly lately.  I don't think that there is a better series anywhere on television - maybe ever.

The characters are all incredibly deep, with many different faces and complexities.  The actors are uniformly outstanding - I haven't seen a bad performance on that show yet.

I love the storyline, as Vic and his team continue to do a lot of good throughout Farmington, while lining thier own pockets, and occasionally resorting to corruption and violence.  Claudette and Dutch break case after case - and they're a terrific team, playing off each other so well.  Dutch seems to possibly be spiralling down into serial killing himself.

Aceveda struggles with his greed and ambition, balancing them with trying to do the right thing in his precinct at the same time, sometimes teaming up with Vic to get things accomplished, other times doing his best to take the Strike Team down.

Well, I could go on and on.  Let's hear what you think.  What's your favorite episode?  Favorite character?  Favorite plotline?

I don't know about favorite but I have to wonder if Dutch is going to turn psycho after the cat killing incident and the video of Aceveda has to turn up again sometime.

Another "Shield" fan here. That show rocks!

Is that a S&W .45 Vic carries?

Looking forward to the next episode!

Yep.  I just watched the episode where Dutch burst into tears after the serial killer pegged his personality so well.  Then the cat-killing thing, and all the child porn on the computer, plus how focused and intense he is whenever he pursues a case.

I believe it's a S&W 1026, 10mm. That would kinda make sense with Vic's character.

I love The Shield. My wife has to leave for work about the same time it comes on at night. I have watched it religously. His methods are out there, but Vic is the man. I cannot wait until season 4 hits the screen. The Sopranos ain't nothing compared to The Shield!!!!!!!

Great show...it's one of the few that I actually make an effort to watch every week.

Vic Mackey is one complex mofo...

Michael Chiklas is a very under-rated actor, IMHO. Glad to see he got recognized by winning an Emmy.

I got Season 2 at Wal-Mart, and Season 1 used off of Ebay.  Oh, and something else I forgot:

He played a flakey art collector on a Miami Vice episode. He's hard to recognize but the voice is a dead give away.

I agree the Commish is a great actor.  To go from that putz in the Commish to Vic is such a huge leap it isn't even funny....  Michael Chiklas has a role in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie if I'm not mistaken too, I forgot the name but it's the big strong guy I believe...

In that episode the first thing that I thought of was -man timeing is eveything, few minutes either way and he would have either not had a lolipop or he would have been seen by his own men with the lolipop, which would have been funny, liked the way he hunted them down though, but I dont think it would have taken 4 or 5 episodes in real life to find them

Everyone remember the episode that started at the gun range, with the guy executing all of those Latin gang members? Well, it's the LA Gun Club - I had shot there years ago, than I saw it on the Shield and went back when I was in LA this winter. BTW - there are cameras everywhere, barbed wire, in the ghetto, open all night long though.

It only took 15 boxes of ammo to get on paper

I love slugs!

As to this thought: "spiralling down into serial killing himself."

IMHO, I think this is Dutch trying to get into the mind of the killer...to almost take the killers advice and understand what it's like to take a life for no other reason than to fulfill some dark need. If you recall, he was stunned after the fact.

I think of this as similar to the William Peterson character in the 1986 Michael Mann film "Manhunter" FBI Agent Will Graham, a profiler who had a gift for getting into the mind of the killer. Going so deep that he was afraid he'd never resurface. He walked into the crime scene house during the day and was able to place himself their at night...to visualize the killers path....to get that smell of blood. Really amazing stuff.

It's possible they might go down that path....but I think it would be a waste. I think Dutch wrestling with inferiority is much more interesting.

Great show...the moral conflict is brillant. It has the FIRST Homosexual character that I found interesting....the type NEVER before scene on TV. A man who is grappling with demons and struggling not to be gay. Usually it's just "Look at me, I'm gay and happy, woo-hoo!"

Top notch!

The Shield - Best Show On TV EVER!

The ONLY bad thing is that the seasons are only 13 episodes instead of 26, but, hey, if it were on a network that could afford 26 episodes per season, it would be more like Melrose Place.

I will be adding the 3rd Season to my existing DVD collection as soon as it is released.

Yep.  Julian was actually my LEAST favorite character on the show, until I bought the Season 1 DVDs and watched from the beginning.  (I watched the seasons in  reverse order - season 3 on TV, then I bought 2 at Walmart, and finally 1 on Ebay.)

Now that I see how hard he fought his desires, including his 'suicide by perp' attempt, as well as his transvestite beat-down blanket party, I have come to really like him.

Having said that, the show could have done with a little less 'hot gay action' between him and his petty criminal boyfriend.  That stuff makes me cringe away from the TV.

Yeah, but that's the "gritty cutting edge" bitch slap to regular primetime TV. "Look what we can do! hahahahaha!"

I anticipated the shows arrival when I first discovered it 6 months before season 1 began. It had a different title, like "The Ramparts" or something. Anyway, the Julian angle and Mackey capping a fellow cop was nearly too much and I almost ditched it. Glad I stayed on.
