I know this place that has got some cool Asian DVDs. Anime that like came straight from Japan. I hope it plays in my DVD player. They have a good selection but I don't know what to get.

Are you looking for US released titles, or stuff that hasn't made it across the pond yet?
WRT import DVDs.....look on the back of the DVD, on the bottom where it lists the standard features. There's gonna be a little square area with a circular globe, , and superimposed on the globe is a number. If that number says either 1 or ALL, you're good to go. If it does not, then it won't work in your DVD player. I don't recall if Japan does ALL region or not.....most HK import stuff is all region. Could you get a touch more specific on your criteria? TV series/movie? All action, or action comedy, or action drama? Thought provoking or pure cheeze? I mean, for robots you've got for example Eva and Dual .....both got robots, both got action, but they're WORLDS apart. |

Cowboy Bebop, the series then the movie.
Evangelion but you have to make fun of the main character for being a pussy. Fooly Cooly with either drugs or alcohol. Jin Roh when you dont feel like a lot of action. Gunsmith cats was short but good. Hellsing Metropolis Anything by studio Ghibli, I prefer The valley najica and the wind and spirited away. Spriggan Princess Mononoke I havent seen full metal panic but I will and I havent wrapped my mind around Fooley Cooly yet. |

Gundam is good, and the 08th MS team was a neat military style adventure.
Macross 2 OVA is good Patlabor There's a new all digital version of Appleseed coming out that I'm really psyched to see... Don't waste your money on the old version Akira Roujin-Z Metropolis Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise (probably my favorite anime of all time) Animatrix had some moments GITS is fantastic |

Lensman. Futurisic Anime, and some good shoulder mounted launcher action that somehow remained state of the art for the time period.
Cowboy Bebop Gunsmith Cats Venus Wars. The BG's Tanks were sweet. But so were the guns mounted on the counter vehicles they made johnny on the spot like. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing -have to get around to seing the last ep and the movie: Endless Waltz. |

* "Macross Plus" - There's a 4 episode series (English dubbed ) & a movie version (Japanese). I've heard the movie version is good, but am not a fan of subtitles, & have never seen it.
* "Cowboy Beebop" - Offers a slick combination of art, storyline, & character development. Never seen the movie version, but hear it's good too. * "Ninja Scroll" - One of the better "ninja" anime. Not for the kids, for sure, but a pretty good story w/ an ending. Haven't seen any follow-ups to it, which kind of nice in an age of (pitiful) sequels. * "Guyver" - This one's downright strange, but worth at least a look, if not purchase. Comical because of its over the top w/ gross-out "fight" scenes. Originally appeared as a 3-episode story, but more episodes were added later on. The first 3 are better than the rest, which appear to have lower quality animation & art. |

Oh, for cyberpunk you might want to check out Texhnolyze. Honestly, I couldn't get through the first disc......but then again I'm not a huge cyberpunk fan.
Ok...if you really want to find some cool anime, you need to do two things (assuming you have a broadband connection). 1. Go to www.bittornado.com and download the Bit Tornado client. 2. go to www.downloadanime.org , and check out the series (plural) they have up there. 99% of it is fan-subtitled, 95% is not released in the United States, and 60% of it probably never will be. Typical fansub rules apply. You can find some really good stuff there, in any genre you can imagine. I'd say take a look at Full Metal Alchemist.... God help me buy I'm completely hooked on Aishiteruze Baby, and I'm probably gonna kill someone for a subbed version of Initial D 04th Stage eps 5-6...
No...not 0080! Oh no.....'BBAAAAAAA-NEEEEEEEEEEE!'. Sorry, only way I could watch it would be extremely drunk and MST3King it. And don't get me sarted on V or ZZ.....argh. 08th was very good, in my mind probably one of the top 3 Gundam series out there. What REALLY surprised me was Gundam SEED. I liked Wing....not to slavish fanboy levels, but liked it....but considering the others I just never really though the AC stuff was very good. Couldn't get into X, nor Turn-A. However...having finished all of SEED....to me it's the best of the AC and is on par with the UC titles (yeah....the parallels in storyline, I know).... |

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Awesome mind job. Director went off his anti-depressant meds halfway through the show; nuff said. Last Exile - Great story, no fanservice shit Cowboy Bebop - Bounty hunters in space, simply awesome FLCL (Fooly Cooly) - Coming of age story, bizarre Gunslinger Girl - Girl assassins, kinda fucked up, but good gunplay, no fanservice shit Noir - Another girls with guns story Serial Experiments: Lain - Theory of existance story |
