Don't get me wrong, Bush seems to be one helluva good guy and I plan to vote for him. However all of the big government proposals regarding health care and tax credits and opertunity zones bother me to no end. I feel that he missed his chance to outline ideas of smaller government and move foward in ending the intrusion of government in healthcare.
On a positive note, that last 10 minutes of his speach was great. I almost started getting choked up as well. You can't help but like the guy. |
Remember he was the Governor of a state that shares a border with another country. He has to hit on entitlements. He did very good for a man who a lot of times makes his own words and stutters like a Model T Ford. I thought it was very right on.
As a hard-core Right-Winger, the movement of my Republican Party toward Big .Gov is very foreboding.
I thought he touched upon tax relief? Reforming the Federal Income tax drew the loudest response.
Bottom line is that Kerry would spend more of our tax dollars. |
Given what this president has spent, that's saying something. |
He did discuss tax reform-which is what I was wanting to hear....but I am sick of hearing how government needs to get in the healthcare and job finding business. and yes I know that Kerry would be FAR FAR worse |
I'm curious as to what percentage of Bush's spending is war related?? |
Not sure. |
Whatever it is, its worth every penny. |
I'm sick of hearing it myself. But the hard, cruel reality of the matter is that there is no going back on a lot of the social programs. Government is now responsible for healthcare and "creating" jobs. Bullshit, to be sure. But unavoidable in these days. I don't like it one bit, but the odds are that in the next 10-20 years, there will be a government takeover of healthcare. How long before the long fall into socialism is complete? |
He has to say that stuff to get elected. Once he's in, he has no reason to actually implement any of it as he cannot be elected to another term. Besides, that's the way they do it now, buying votes through the welfare state |
Absolutely, positively, agreed! |

President Bush is the last great hope of our Republic!
If John F***ing Kerry wins this election, there will never be an opportunity for our Republic to get back on the track. If you think Bill Clinton was bad, well, he was a MODERATE compared to the man whose Liberal Voting Record exceeds his buddy Teddy Kennedy's! Politics is the Art of the Possible. If you have the best possible candidate for your position, you must support that candidate and hope for a delaying action against this country's pell mell race to Socialism! Eric The(Realistic)Hun |

They're both basically clones of each other anyway.
The only way W is going to win my vote is if the AWB expires in 9 days. |
Exactly. WE need to think of this in a military context. EVERY soldier / commander wants total victory. Total victory is ONLY won by small individual localized victories. Intermingled with stalemates and occasional defeats. It is foolish in teh EXTREME to accept total defeat because you REFUSE to win the victory you CAN win, holding out futile hope for immediate total victory now. |
Thats a bit narrow wouldn't you say? Remember Kerry said no one should have an AK47. No thanks, my cast is for Bush. |
I'd gladly GIVE more money to taxes if I knew it would be directly for winning the war on terror. ie. body armor for soldiers......... I'd rather my tax $$ be spent on that than making a way for "my babies daddy" to continue selling crack while knocking up more ghetto "mom's". Oh and BTW I could get a little deeper if you're interesten in how I really feel. |
It's called political retoric, folks.
As in, the expousing of themes or ideas that encompass a wide divergence of viewpoints but not to be taken literally. |
Well thats why we have to make sure Bush gets re-elected. |
As a right-wind, radical, extremist..... I would have to agree. |
Umm... SCOTUS? |
Remember he can promise the moon but unless Congress can back him up on it nothing will be done. Nice speech but it's politics as usual when you boil it all down.
I take it your carry NO debt yourself? I take it the whole War on Terroism never entered you mind concerning the budget now has it? SGatr15 |

It sounds like you may have had a little bit to much COWBELL! BigDozer66 |
Simple majorities don't cut it any longer! You have to have a 'super majority' nowadays to do anything of substance! In the Senate that means at least 60 members! Eric The(Practical)Hun |

I was putting into perspective how much Kerry would be spending, you moron. |
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH |
See my sig line. He is no small government conservative. He is a social conservative only.
At least he did mention reducing government regulations once, which is more than in his last acceptance speech. |
You know guys, the president doesn't need to convince most of us to vote for him. He needs to convince the middle swing voters to vote for him. Stop being so damn parochial.
Fiscal conservatism is good to have, but social and defense conservativism is the more important end of the spectrum. |
There is a difference between fiscal conservatism and small government conservatism. Reagan was certainly no deficit hawk, but the he arrested the growth of federal spending - especially domestic spending - and new federal regulations. Not so, our boy GWB. Domestic spending has been rampant, and the powers of the federal government have actually expanded significantly. |
I don't cosider a tax credit being "big govennment." It's an incentive to lower the cost to the end user. It isn't even remotely similar to socialized medicine. |
Clinton was a fan of tax credits, and so was Al Gore. I hate that in order for someone to keep the money that they earn they must do this or do that. IMHO that is facism. Now fellas don't get me wrong here, I will do and have done my part to help GWB get elected, however I just wish he wouldn't propose more domestic spending or programs. |
Ummm...no. Facism has a definition. That ain't it. |
Facism is private ownership of companies, however the government has control over operations. If a company is located at "X" location and is doing well but the government says, hey we won't tax you as much if you relocated to "Y" is getting darn close. I know what Facism is, while I probably have mis-spoke, I don't like the idea of tax incentives to stay or move. The bottom line is that the government is increasingly becoming to involved in life of coporations. |
No, sorry. That's a small PART of the definition of facism, but its presence doesn't equal to facism. |
I kept having this mental picture of Bush standing in the back of a 1 ton filled full of cash and pitchforking out a big chunk of it everytime he punched the delivery of the last sentence of one of his domestic programs.
It was still a powerful speech though. |
Oh..... nevermind..... SGtar15 |
