A reliable one.
 Just me being a smart ass as usual don't go all garandman on me. I like my 11-87 in 12 guage. It will run as fast as I can pull the trigger, that to me is as reliable as it gets.Take care. Coondog

I've got a Benelli M1 Tactical and it is awesome! I put an extended tube on it and I've had ZERO problems with it. Gotta love recoil action! Plus, it looks meaner than heck!

I have the AK one...it is an awesome weapon, tough, reliable and little recoil, bestof all 5 mags for it.

Remy 1100CM... all set and ready to go from the factory. Mine has been ultra-reliable. I don't clean it as often as I should, but it keeps rockin'. #4 buck takes plates down quick and recoil is easy to handle. I use mine for skeet, trap, and plates. I almost never used my O/U anymore. You don't really need the 3" chamber in a HD shotty.

Probably the LT-20 I saw at the gunshow for $300 and DIDN'T BUY. I'm still kicking myself over that one.

Either is fine in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.
That said, my druthers would be a Benelli. I like the unlocked shell lifter. Plus with the older ones you can sneak an extra round in on top of the shell lifter. Admittedly, Benelli’s will thump you a bit harder than an 1187. |

If I had to choose I would vote for the 11-87 platform.
However I would not choose a semi shotty for home defense. I am not trying to start a flame war just state my opinion. Auto shottys have a place, IMHO its not home defense. CH |

Just for clarification, could someone explain the legality of attaching a folding stock to this thing if/when the ban goes away? If it's legal, my god it would be the mother of all home defense weapons!!! |

Benelli M1 Tactical with pistol grip and ghost rings. My experience is that it functions with ammo that makes other autoloaders have cycling issues. Weighs less than the 11-87, and not gas operated, so you feel some more recoil, but the cycling reliability is the key.

My understanding is that once the AWB goes away, you still have to deal with US parts compliance issues from the '89 import ban, but it can be done. Check forum.saiga-12.com for more info. |

Ive never owned a semi auto shotgun that was 100% reliable, including the Benelli M1 Super 90. My Benelli has been put on permanant slug gun duty. I use 870's for defense/work. |

The Benelli kicks like a mule. I had a pre-ban and I couldn't shoot more than 2 tubes full before walking away. And it was finicky on ammo, not willing to cycle everything. Might have to do with the recoil operation (vs. gas operation). I didn't like it and sold it right away.

I have a Rem 11-87 Police that is very reliable. The Benelli is OK if you are looking for light weight, but that should not be much of a consideration for a home gun. I have owned and shot an M1 Super 90. It may be reliable, but if you want to shoot it for extended periods, it will beat the living crap out of your shoulder. That is why I sold mine and bought the 11-87, it is not just a little better, it is a lot better on felt recoil. I guarantee, if you shoot 7 rounds of buckshot in the Benelli, then shoot the same loads in an 11-87, it will feel like you are shooting a .22LR, relatively speaking.

Been eyeing the M1014, as I'm often told that it runs reliably. The inability to get the evil collapsible stock has dampened the enthusiasm somewhat, but I remain undaunted. Similar thoughts for the Saiga-12 (lousy import restrictions). 12-ga. mags look cumbersome beyond carrying 2-3. Will definitely try one out before passing any judgement, though. If I were in the house burglarizing biz, even the sight of grandpa's old double bbl. SG would turn me into the king of the 100 yd. dash.

This article has a lot of good info and I've found it to be consistent with what I've experienced
Speed Shotgun I've shot a few different Benellis and wasn't all that impressed. They recoiled harder and had problems with light loads. I also experienced the hammer-follow mentioned in that article. Don't have much trigger time behind the 1100, but I liked it. Don't forget to stay on top of that magazine spring to ensure reliability. A-5, too bad they don't make mag extentions and pistol grip stocks for them. My brother did the fastest shotgun mag-dump I've ever seen with one.I'll still take a pump, more specifically an 870. |

I've fired both the super 90 and the 11-87P. To tell the truth, I don't really like the idea of a semi auto shotgun. (870 behind my truck seat 24/7) I thought I would prefer the M1, but it was quite the opposite! The M1 bucked to the right with every shot due to the rotating bolt design. I did not like it at all. On the other hand the 11-87 had very little recoil with full house loads and the weapon was back on target right away. Reliability issues, I cannot address. I did not spend enough time with either gun to pass judgement. If I had to carry an autoloading shotgun, I'd go with a remington. I am waiting for the saiga 12 with anticipation.

I have a Rem 11/87 and I've shot a few hundreds thru it shooting trap & skeet with zero failure. If I had to keep a auto-loading shotgun for self-defense this would be it.
OT: For those who want to put an extended mag tube on the Remingtion shotguns, Remington puts a little dimple on the end the prevents the shells from thru the mag, but it is a simple to get around by filling it down. |

as far as performance goes, you'd be better off saving a couple of hundred dollars with the 11-87 and putting the saved money towards some neat-o gadgets.

I've got both Benelli M-1 is my favorite. I've got one tactical M1 and another with an 18" barrel and the HD camo I use for turkeys 1187 is a good gun but seems a lot heavier than benelli
