I'm gonna have to get me one of those.   Another one, I mean.  I have a nice Winchester Dane with a VAR barrel... I need a couple more... maybe a rack grade, rebarrel to .308, synthetic stocks and set it up as a hunting rifle... :)

Details man, details!!!  GK RG, SA SG, HRA, WRA, IHC, what???  Cartouches, early/late parts, lockbar sights, etc.  That is not cool.  There are people like me who suffer from acute Garanditis and when people like you post stuff like this, bad things start happening.  We need details!

That looks like some old timey gun.  Is it a musket or something?  It isn't all black and plastic so I am confused

How much did it cost through the CMP? Can they be easily converted to .308/7.62? I'm thinking of biting the bullet and getting the paperwork and putting in the time to get one.

Be carful! my musket like that blew up when I loaded it with .30 musketballs and black powder.  To ignite it I had to pull back the breech and light the powder with a match.  I almost went blind and the CMP would not replace it

As for the marksmanship end of it.....any other way to prove it other than shooting with a club?
(i.e. DD214, CCW/CHL?)

Yup.  214 will work so will FFL, not sure about CCW, though.  If you fired rounds to get it and can get the instructor to sign off on it, I believe it will work.  The CMP website has all the information you are looking for.  www.odcmp.com

There is a form on the CMP website that any range officer can fill out just by watching you shoot and asking you a few questions.  The awesome people at Cherry Creek State Park Family Shooting Center did it for me at no cost.  I don't think any of them read this board, but if they do:  Thanks Guys!

WARNING:  THESE ARE SWEET RIFLES AND ADDICTIING TO SHOOT!

My friend has one and when I went to shoot it I said I'd pay for my ammo.  I ended up spending over $175 for ammo.  I couldn't get enough of it!
