What a relief.
I am sure these extremists will buckle under the almighty U.N saying they should release the hostages.

For a second there i thought there might be some violence.

No kidding.  If they're crazy enough to do this to Russians they couldn't care less what the UN thinks!

ETA, they're all gonna die.  I hope the civilian toll isn't too high.

UN officials call for immediate release of Russian school hostages

1 September 2004 – United Nations officials today strongly condemned the hostage-taking of hundreds of people, including many children, at a school in southern Russia, with Secretary-General Kofi Annan calling for their immediate release and an end to "this criminal act directed against the most vulnerable members of society."

In a statement released by his spokesman in New York, Mr. Annan said he was "appalled" to learn that more than a hundred pupils were being held hostage at a secondary school in Beslan, Russian Federation, in an attack that has already resulted in deaths.

"He calls for the immediate release of the children, their parents and teachers, and condemns in the strongest terms this criminal act directed against the most vulnerable members of society," the statement added.

Also appealing for the immediate and unconditional release of the youngsters, UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Carol Bellamy said their safety should be the paramount concern of all parties involved.

"Children must never be used for political purposes, and schools must never be degraded to places of violence," she added. "They must be preserved as safe-havens for children to learn and play. If we don't respect the sanctity of childhood, then we have nothing."

Yea no kidding.
I am interested to see how the Russians will take these guys out.
I was thinking maybe they were waiting for night to cut the power to the building and hit it with troops equipped with night vision gear.  If that holds true the battle should go down within a couple of hours, it should be getting dark soon.

I can't hardly wait to see how they get this done.

200 kids and the same in adults, a spectator sport...

What will truley be interesting is there response later, in a week or so, exactly how level chechynia is made to be.  I woudl not rule out mass aerial bombings, and since Koffi moved his ass with amazing alctricity, I woudl think that the Nuclear option might have been bandied about by Russia.

I vote for it.

Minor hijack: why the hell does the UN only "demand" stuff?  And why the hell is the secretary general some dude from a third world shithole in the Dark continent?

The Chechen raiders had better heed Kofi's "demand" or he'll get tough. He might even go so far as to draft a resolution. If he gets really pissed, he'll call for sanctions, too. Chew on that, tough guy. And don't even think you want him opening the #10 can of UN whoop-ass, the official statement condemning action! Watch out!

Beats the hell out of me man.  Just gives us another reason to give them a middle finger and pull our money out.  We do prop up that shitty organization almost single handedly anyway.
I would love to see the U.N demand something when they can't afford bullets for their guns, which never get used anyway.

Hijacking my own thread now.
Why does Sudan have a spot on the human rights council and the U.S does not?

Fuck the U.N

Muslim apologists are going to have a hard time with their position if a couple hundred children/hostages are killed.

UN can't and won't do jack beyond issuing flaccid proclamations & condemnations - it's debatable whether they are more or less relevant than France.

Whoever is running the Chechen /Muslim operation must know that they are signing the death warrants of thousands of their pals (if the hostages are killed) - of course they buy that 72 virgins horseshit.

It's getting harder & harder for people to deny that this is rapidly becoming a global religious conflict.

Kofi is about as effective as wet toilet paper on a shatty ass.

It is strange how the fight against Islam is driving the United States and Russia closer together in our fight against a common enemy. The three major allied forces against Islam might be a return team from WWII. The British, Americans, and the Commie Bastards I mean Russians. This time Russia the Bear is actually likable and not just barely bearable . I would fight along side a Russian today against a common Islamic enemy.

Because, thank God, the UN has no standing army (or even police force).  They are a toothless and clawless tiger that have to pull armed manpower from nations like us if they actually want to DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN TALK.

As for Kofi?  One of the UN's "achivements" was to give those "oppressed people" a voice in "running" the world.  Quite often that translates into third world socialist/communist shitholes thinking because they have a stage, that it gives their gooberments, policies and goals ligitamacy.

Perhaps it is time for the world to employ the "Kaiser Soze" approach to islamic terrorism.  Certainly the Russians would be capable of leading this iniative.

I think the Russkis are already help us and us them in private.  Its not PC to do it in public but considering the common problem, I think there is cooperation.  You guys are also forgetting the muslim turds in China.  They have been a thorn in the side of the Chinese for long time.  You dont want to piss them off too much.  The Chinese are not into PC and there is no liberal media to report it.

What's UNICEF going to do, pelt them with pennies?

I don't understand why these freaking idiots don't get it... NOBODY'S OFF LIMITS TO A TERRORIST!! In fact, as they see it, the more socially horrific the crime, the more effective it is.
