You saw the videos of it flying but not landing. Here's why:

It didn't land because the link doesn't work?

Gee I wonder why it crashed?!?!?

Jim: "Hey bob lets fly our $20,000 hand made B52 today"
Bob: "NO JIM!!! What about the 30 MPH winds?"
Jim: "Fuck it"
Bob: "K"

Still a shame as that was a cool plane, regardless.

Realistic to the end...

That airplane was spectacular.  Sad to see it go, but that's part of the risk.  It wasn't built for a static display.

Stupidity on the part of the operator(s).   OBVIOUSLY the weather conditions weren't good enough.

$20,000 dollars?   That wouldn't pay for the eight engines alone, hardly!   It probably cost
over 30K and maybe near 40.

That really sucks, but the operator is to blame for trying to fly in weather that clearly wasn't good enough.

I hope and pray that dumb shit does not have a pilots license.  I would hate to see someone with judgement THAT bad try and fly a real plane.

Too windy, what were they thinking?

I for one don't feel sorry for them.  I base this upon the response when it crashed.  The only thing said when it crashed was "oh no"    They must be filthy rich.

Me being poor and extremely pathetic would have screaming cursing blah, blah, blah.

They will build another :)

For 30K you better get a nice fireball at the end!!!!!

Eh, wind doesnt matter when you are already flying. Landing, however   That was soo much like that B52 airshow crash. You dont have vertical component of lift in a 90 degree bank

That was total pilot error/shit flying.

Actually, the bigger the model the less wind affects it. A plane that big with that much wing area and power should have flown fine in the weather I could see. IIRC, the engines (Wren Turbines) cost about about $3500 x 8  but were donated by the manufacturer because of the projects publicity. These planes especially the jets when this big have TONS of wireing, 20+ servos are not uncommon as are multiple recievers for differnent functions, then you have air and or hydraulic systems for the gear, bomb bay doors, fuel pumps, mult battery packs, gyros etc etc. A pinched wire, dead battery, binding control rod or cable, etc can spell doom.

What kind of reaction would you expect? The guys just saw years of work go inthe shitter, they were probably in speechless awe.....

There is also another guy in England that made a similar scale C-17....HUGE. There is a guy here in the states that has made a mammoth B-58 Hustler and a 150" U-2S.
