August 31, 2004 -- A cop was in serious condition with head injuries today after he was knocked off his scooter and stomped by protestors at an illegal march, police said. Several thousand people took part in the march — conducted without a permit by the group Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign — which started at the United Nations, then moved south on Second Avenue, west on 23rd Street and back uptown on Eighth Avenue. The violence happened at 30th Street and Eighth Avenue, where police barricades were set up to protect Madison Square Garden. Police spokesman Paul Browne, who saw what happened, said that after protesters knocked the officer off the scooter, they "kicked and punched" him. The cop was in serious condition at St. Vincent's Hospital. |

Damnit....it's too bad the police can't start busting heads up there.
It was an illegal march and they assulted a cop, fuck busting heads they should have been bustin' caps. |
True. On the other hand if they are attacking the police it's actually a riot, and those are illegal! |
Really, its sad to hear that the guy was injured - I hope he recovers quickly. But comments like that just catch you off guard and you have to laugh. |

The problem is once the cops start busting heads the city will get slammed with lawsuits. And not just from those that received the head busting...our old friends at the ACLU will come down on them too. In our PC society it's okay to injury a cop but not okay to administer an ass whipping on a criminal. |

Yes there is, for saftey(of marchers and non marchers) reasons and to better manage what is going on in the city for the benifit of all the citizens it is required that you obtain a permit to march, they did not do this. They than went and assaulted an officer of the law. Now I'm not one to agree with it(the need for a permit), but at the same time because it is for safety as well, I'm a little more inclined to put up with it. The other thing is that the 1st amendment gives us the right to Peaceably assemble. When you assault somone regardless of if it's a police officer or a bush supporter() you are no longer peaceably assembled and thus are not protected by the 1st amendment. |

welp, here's their website:
http://www.economichumanrights.org/ and here is their member list:
and here is their press release on commondreams.org (didn't that website show up for another lefty yesterday?) http://www.commondreams.org/news2004/0817-03.htm they seem to like the UN... http://www.economichumanrights.org/about/about.html "we have a RIGHT to the fruits of your labours, specifically YOUR MONEY" opps, they don't come out and say that quite so bluntly... lazy-asses |
Hope he sues the crap out of the March organizers and the A-31 activists-maybe there's a Rico suit in there. the Southern Poverty Law Center basically dismantled the Klu Klux Klan that way, it'd be nice to see some of these punks pursued the same way.
Oh shit! Being stomped by a bunch of HEFFER WELFARE QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!
Damn........................... I guess they felt entitled to that too! Tj |
I know that wasn't Wave for two reasons:
1) He doesn't ride a scooter 2) None of the "protestors" caught any 9's |
I heard they got ranch rescue too. Don't know who true that is but I know the SPLC had something to do with Ranch Rescue not doing somethings a couple months back. I doubt the SPLC would do anything to this group as they seem to have a lot of immigrant(for helping illegals at that) groups listed on their site |

Notice how all the violence goes one way. The libs and commie pinkos are violent to anyone who disagrees. Yet we are the intolerant facists?
Hardly. |

Well I'm very sorry to see a cop was hurt, but on the bright side, I'd hope the NYPD has unofficially declared open season with no bag limit on protestors. My congratulations to the protestors; you likely just disturbed a nest of 10,000 blue hornets. I hope they show you all the same courtesy the cop last night experienced.
Whats almost as disturbing is that there are reports of individual delagates being singled out, followed, and verbally and physically assulted by these assholes. The protestors apparently know what hotels the delagates are staying in and have them staked out so whenever a delagate leaves the hotel the protestors hook up by cell and text messaging to get groups to harrass the delagates as they go about their business going to restaurants, shows, sightseeing, and going to the convention. FWIW, I think the real hippie whomping is going to start today. I just can't imagine an NYPD officer going down without a little street justice being meaded out in retaliation. |
The behavior of these protesters is a boon to the republicans.
A big plus one. |
I would like to see them try that in SC. |
He's right though. They act crazy because they don't have anything to lose. Jail to them is just time doing nothing. Plus they are inside and being fed. |
I take exception to the notion of an illegal march, I’m fairly certain we are all guaranteed the right of public assembly is some trivial piece of paper.
And does the right of public assembly allow me and 50 of my friends to march down the interstate during the height of labor day traffic? |
Quit trying to be practical dammit. |
In my parts of the world Nothing will happen other than maybe a couple hours in jail... And I dont have any prob with that... When you are no longer allowed to say "Fuck", Then you are no longer allowed to say "Fuck the Govt".... And Im willing to fight for that right, even if it is for some scum bag hippy freak. |

Jeeze who ever filmed that thing should never touch a camera again. HORRIBLE.
I hope the cop gets well soon, and I hope the guy who did it gets caught and owned hard. And I hope the nypd gets some stick time on these whackos soon..
Oh, so then my right to swing my fist DOESN'T end at your nose.....cool. |
Just another in the many growing reasons to vote for Bush, nothing more. I wonder why those idiots doing shit like that can't see that? Do they actually think anyone besides the radical leftist nutcases like them agree with the shit they are doing or are impressed by them? What morons.

This is why Libertarians have beciome the party for Potheads instead of the party for thinking Americans.
NOWHERE does this not allow for local municipalities to require permits to block public roads and iinterfere with the rest of the public's daily life. Anybody can meet with as many people as they want in the privacy of their own homes or businesses. If you want to use a state park or city street - you need to get permission from that appropriate government entity. Heck, they let almost anyone get permission - and constitutionally speaking they really don't have to. These fuckers just occupied the streets by force - they interfered with the lawful traffic flow and, by their direction of travel, appeared to threaten the convention. |

Would you care to elaborate on that remark? |
You need to think this through a little. My "rights" don't often extend to the point where I can inflicy myself on others without their consent. |

Wow, conlsidering that case law says being outnumbered is grounds for deadly force, there are some VERY lucky liverals alive tonight.
