Saturday, a GI told me it was 35. I thought it was 27.

If memory serves me correctly, the cut off for the Army is... you have to be on active duty prior to your 35th birthday (assuming no prior active duty service).
The Air Force and Marines are somewhat more strict with the cut off age being somewhere around 26/27. I think the Navy is 34 as well. |

Federal statue require you to be able to retire with 20 years of service by your 55th birthday. Meaning that you can enlisted up to your 35th birthday. However this age limit can be waived beyond that if you have some specific skill set (Doctors being most likely to get this waiver).
Even if the service, like the Marines say 27, you can get in at an older age, but it requires a waiver. If you are under 35 that waiver is pretty easy to get. However like anything else it depending on how well recruiting is going can be easy or hard. So at the parade of freaks time of the month you see guys get waivers for about anything. |

Your first day of basic cannot be on or after your 35th birthday.

For some programs, it's 27. Flight school, BUD/S, EOD, and the like. Waivers are available, but I wouldn't want to try a program like BUD/S any older than 27....
For your everyday average enlistee, it's 35. |

For the Aus Army Reserves (not sure about active army), the age limit is 51 to join

The age limit doesn't apply to prior service. We had a guy in USMC boot camp in 1987 who was a Army Vietnam vet (and a greenie beanie to boot).

When I went through MCRD my company had a guy in at 33 years old, no prior service.
I don't know the details but it made the rest of us a little more motivated, had to out do the "old man". |

when i went through parris island we had a guy who was 33 also. he was greying at the temples. he got laid off, his dog got hit by a car and he found out his wife had been boning his boss all in the same week. poor bastard

I'm an Air Force recruiter. For enlisted, age cap is 27. For officer, age cap is 32. Age Waivers for the AF are virtually impossible to get signed right now. (We made our annual goal months ago and are currently in the process of drawing down something like 16,000, so no waivers except really minor stuff are even considered)

For the Army, take your prior service time and subtract it from your current age, if the result is under 35 your good to go. They may make some other exceptions if your in a high demand MOS. |
