I am trying to think of reasons.  This is what I have come up with…

We are winning the war and the terrorists are on the run.
There was too much security at the Olympics.
Fear of UN backlash too great.
They don’t have enough assets attack “everything” and they are saving up for something big.
They act randomly and could not terrorize if they hit every major target.
They only want to hit the U.S.A. and other targets they view as their enemy

what do you think was their reasoning?

Terrorists look for weak, unprotected targets.  The security in Athens was tight, thus no attack.  Cowards.

It was low-intensity op. You're forgetting the guy in the red kilt.

If they hit the Olympics, they'd have the whole world after their butts.  Not everyone in the world hates them, but if they indiscriminately killed anyone and everyone there, every country would be after them, including one's that are sheltering them now.

Because we were waiting for them, remember at Munich they caught us with our pants down. Who would attack a bunch of people playing a game? So they did. Nobody except Tom Clancy thought airplanes could be used for weapons.

I figure the Olympics bored so many people to death the terrorist just didn’t want to pile on.

"...400 American Special Forces soldiers to be present at the Olympic Games..."

Would you want to tangle with 400 of these guys?

Actually, it was kept out of the press, but they did. They had plans to use a cooling system as a dispersal system for some sort of bio weapon. John Clark and Ding Chavez managed to stop it, though.

Wish I could remember where I read that...

Dunno, but after the closing ceremonies last night (yes I know they took place like 6 hours before they were telecast) I let out a big sigh of relief. I thought for sure the Olympics would get hit.

I'll let a big sigh out after the RNC, and the elections in November as well, God willing.

Hard to say. I'm kinda wondering why they haven't attacked here again yet.

The ongoing War on Terror must be having some impact, though how much is hard to say. We have captured lots of their guys, and undoubtedly even more are constantly on the run or in hiding and unable to communicate well.

The Olympics might not be a juicy enough target for them right now. Too much security, too many "allies" to offend. I'd expect them to direct what resources they have to attacking targets clearly identified with the War on Terror, like the US and England.

They're probably directing a lot of resources against our forces in Iraq, but they're well-prepared, and terrorists can only get one or two guys at a time, if they're lucky. It's hard to say if they have the resources left for a major attack in our homeland. No choice but to stay vigilant, and wait and see.

Why didn't terrorists attack the Olympics?

Wait… maybe because the President directed the CIA and military to kill as many as possible and degrade their network.

Just a thought…

1. Would have united attending countries against terrorism.
2. Olympic venues and events weren't planned out and finished with enough time to organize it. (probably the biggest)
3. Couldn't really get insiders in.
4. Security extremely high.
5. Return on attack (financial, casualty, fear, etc) too low.

Dale Brown did in Storming Heaven

They sent their best guy to stage a terror attack.  Didn't you see it?

Smart. Asymetric warfare is a bitch.

If you were Osama, would you attack a heavily defended target, or a soft target? DUH!
