My campus is in the early stages of planning a program to collect items for care packages for soldiers currently deployed in Iraq and elsewhere. Is there anything the troops need that is left off the lists you find online, that would be easy for college students [read: not alot of money] to contribute? Also, the idea of collecting seldom used DVDs and CDs that just sit on dorm room shelves has come up a few times... while its not a new Eotech or a hydrastorm, would it be a worthwile item to send? Also, the DOD website discourages "To Any Soldier" type letters and packages, as it only bogs down the mail system, any comments on that? And if true, would sending them to specific units or soldiers to distribute to others be a wise choice? Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Typical list of items to send...anything cheap missing?:

Try looking up the adopt a platoon thread.  We have been supporting a fellow ARFCOM member and his platoon for some time now.  Sorry, I'm not sure how to post a link.
