Silly topic, but the Quantum Teleportation topic below made me think of it. Anyone remember the SK short story about the guy who didn't take the sleeping pill when he was supposed to be transported? He came through on the other side mad as a hatter screaming "It's FOREVER IN THERE!"

No, just the short story. I believe it was in Skeleton Crew. Another good one from that book was
The Monkey. It was about one of those monkeys that clap the cymbals together and grin, but bad things happened when this one clapped.

I distinctly remember that book being held by Michael J. Fox (might have been somebody else) in a poster at the library as a kid.

I like "The Mist," its actually not too sci-fi but the game Half Life is based on it.

Also in the same book was something called something like The typewritter of the gods, about some guy who has a typewritter that has the power to change things if he types stuff into it.

It was called "The Jaunt" and it was in Skeleton Crew. It was actually a family who was supposed to go through, and everyone but the son took their medication beforehand. They came out to find their son was a dribbling babbling lunatic with white hair.

I loved that book. Every story kicked ass, especially The Mist. Didn't know Half-Life was based on it. I'll have to check that out.

Yep, that was it Mrs.G. I didn't know Half Life was based on The Mist either. I saw something somewhere about a movie based on TM, always thought it would be a good one. Maybe if he FINALLY finished The Gunslinger series someone will do a mini series.

Wasn't it a Bachman (sp?) book? That was a great story, but The Mist rocked.

Last Gunslinger book is out on September 21st. I hope they don't turn it into a miniseries though. I have all those characters in my head and they'd probably do like they did with The Stand and get Molly Ringworm to play a lead part.

The Mist is great. There are a couple other good ones in Skeleton Crew. The story about the crew that crashes on the desert planet, the teens that get stuck on the raft in the middle of the lake, and the one were the guy gets marooned on the island and has to eat himself.

Yep, lots of good ones in that one. I believe that one also had "The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet". Everytime I see one of those old typewriters with the window in front I think of that story.

The Mist is one of my favorite SK stories. It shows the kind of psychological changes people go through when faced with extreme stress.

There are some obvious elements in Half-Life from this story, such as the monsters appearing out of nowhere, and the tentacles. Beyond that, very little from the story made it into the game.

I remember reading in PC Gamer years ago that this newfangled game called Half-Life would be based on some Stephen King story, so I ran out and bought Skeleton Crew right away, and wasn't dissapointed in the least.
