He was an ass, but not bad as normal. I think he is smart enough to know that the SBVFT ads are hurting Kerry because people have more faith in the Vets... so if you attack O'Neill you are now offending those that have sided with the Vets over Kerry. Kerry needs to get some of those folks back in his fold, and Mahr is smart enough to know you can't make O'Neill the victim.
